Mirror Swap

I have searched all over and can't seem to find a reference to the GSXR to 4th gen mirror details, such as which GSXR years exchange. Anyone one know where to find it? blink.gif

dont you mean cbr?
if you want gsxr mirrors.. get a set busted vfr or cbr and mod the pivit to accept the gsxr stalk.or mod the stalk..ect,ect..

I think what he's looking for here is what other bike mirrors have the same hole offset as the VFR's... I thought I recall the VFR's being 50mm (don't hold me to that)... anyone know? Where's Safe-T at? I think he tried a half dozen ideas out for Murphy, didn't he?

Go with Y2K VFR mirrors. They fit right up and are the shizzizzle.

Go with Y2K VFR mirrors. They fit right up and are the shizzizzle.

And they also fit CBR's too. fing02.gif

just ran downstairs and measured a few mirrors.
new cbrs are 40mm centers
and new gsxr's look to be 42-43mm

minor modification would be required to make the GSXR Signal mirrors fit.
it looks like the GSXR Mirrors have Studs mounted in the mirrors.
so you could probably just drill out the threads from the Mirror supports on the VFR giving it the extra 2mm spacing you would need. and bolt them on.
or you could possibly take CBR mirror Bases and make the GSXR Stalk fit it.

when i have a few $ to spend later this year i will probably try it.

Hopefully, I willl have something to report on this topic in the next month. I've decided to pursue this road for a couple of reasons:

1- I have road rash on my left mirror still from my incident a few years back.
2- Gixxer mirrors are reasonably cheap and have decent light output.
3- I want to rid myself of the factory signal lights and mount PIAA 1100x driving lights in their place (a very intense light: for daytime visibility)

I'm not too sure about how to mount them. I don't want to molest the VFR factory mounting holes in any way, in case I don't like the look and want to switch to something else. Probably will get local machine shop to build me some adapters.

Thanks for the comments. I thought I had read that the early 2000's GSXR mirrors made a cheaper alternative to the 100.oo each y2k Honda mirrors, and were of a close-to-VFR bolt spacing. The 1997 bike I have has 50mm spacing and the orientation is up and out at probably about 45 degrees or so. The new lighted GSXR mirrors look like they are near to horizontal on the fairing and would be a full-on adaptation to the 4th gen bikes. I had thought about adding an embedded LED strip to the VFR or earlier GSXR mirror back. I still am unsure what the stem length and spacing and orientation are for the Suzuki. I guess if it was a real "go", a lot of answers would have popped up by now. Maybe I'll buy a cheaper aftermarket set and see how things fit up. I could always just get the y2k set from Honda. Anyone know a good deal, now that Dynamohumm is gone?

I'm putting them on a sixth gen, just to be clear. I agree that the orentation looks off: Suzuki is nearly horizontal, as you pointed out. I think the answer lies in machining some sort of an adapter or new base mounting block. I wanted some mirror extenders anyhow, so I think I will combine this into my design, along with LED strips for the mirror side to be more visible from behind. I just don't know if I can do it in a manner that will look pretty...... My riding buddy has the newer style Gixxer with these mirrors, and I've looked at them quite a bit. I think I can do it......

Initially, I was planning on making my factory VFR mirrors into signal mirrors (visible from front and rear.) Adapting the stock VFR mirrors with the newer style of thin stalk will be difficult: where do you run the wire for the LED? The older style might be more favorable. Didn't they have some sort of rubber boot? That might work well to hide wiring.

I have a set of the Lockhart Philips signal mirrors for sale if you are interested; they are pretty small though and I decided not to use them. But they ARE cheap. You might be able to use the lens and reflector from them and mount into the OEM Honda mirror...

If you want something that actually bolts on to a VFR, check out Thurn motorsport (in Germany, I think.) They cost a fortune, so that's why I decided to make my own.

What year CBR mirrors are you guys talking about? I have a set of F4 CBR mirrors and the spacing is about 35mm. These don't fit. Please narrow it down for me. I hate my mirrors on my 98 vfr they look bad because of the rubber shrinking over time..
