Gps Mount For My �94

Howdy Riders, I'm looking for ideas on how to mount a RAM ball for my GPS on my �94. I need to stick with the RAM system since I use I already use it on my other bikes and my GPS is setup that way. Thanks for any ideas.

RAM makes a clutch/brake reservoir mount that works on either bar. I got mine from Cycle Gadgets. They made it pretty easy, and even emailed me to recommend a different length arm for what I was doing.

I ordered the one with two balls because it was a dollar more. However, the lower ball hit the tank at full steering lock, so I shaved the lower side of it. (Yes, I snickered while typing that.) In hindsight, just go with the single ball version.

Because we don't have front tank bolts, that option is out.

Nice setup istanwood! Does that XM clear everything when turning the bars? What length RAM arm did you go with?

I really like that setup Wingspan. I've used the standard U-Bolt type on a few other bikes. When I was considering options I didn't even consider that one as it didn't look like it would fit. Did you have to slide your left controls out at all?

I moved the clutch master over just enough for the mount to clear. I had planned to order the mount jstanwood recommended, but I already had the U-bolt type on hand.

Whenever I use it, I just play with the angles until everything clears. I am using the "standard" arm, which I think is 3". I also overpaid for the little magnetic bracket for the antenna to stick to. You won't need that, though. That hangs off the rear of the XM unit, so that's what I really have to watch for clearance.

I still plan to redo my wiring, but it's worked for a few long trips already. I just need to get a better place for the headphone cord to go, because it catches on things and pulls my earbuds out. Not the best type of distraction. blink.gif

Thanks again for the tip Wingspan. I pulled the u-bolt type RAM mount off my KLR650 to try it on the VFR. It worked perfectly. Now I need to order another for my KLR. fing02.gif
