Guys, I'm 48, 6'2'', 265 and really can't ride a full blown sportbike. I need your wisdom and experience on a couple of mod's I thought about on my 01.
1. Genmar's vs. Helibars?
2. Cutdown and re-staple seat to eliminate flat spot on top vs. Corbin vs. Sargent?
3. Anyone seen replacement levers with same "Z" shape as Pazzo's or CRG's without the ridiculous expense? Just want a close in control surface on the levers.
I would appreciate you sharing your experiences before I dump a butt load of money without having the facts. And no, I don't want your SV.

I can't answer any vs as I don't have 2 of any catagory, but:
1. Love my Helibars 2. Corbin seat fits my rear perfectly. Much more firm than the factory seat so can't imagine any form of the factory seat could be as nice as the corbin. 3. no clue 4. you didn't ask, but BLS peg lowering kit works wonders to spare your knees...
I tried a VFR with a Sargent Saddle and really liked it. Im 6'4" @ 260 and really like the slope on the front seat. So I ordered the seat and should be here end of May sad.gif I ordered it two weeks ago...SLOW shipping and item on back-order for the VFR.

SuperCheep: Take bike of sidestand. Let go of said bike. Rinse, lather, repeat for other side. The levers will either be shorter and/or closer to the grip. fing02.gif goofy.gif
Hey, I'm with you on the price point. I love the looks and functionality but I keep thinking that even a garage drop is instantly $80+ more expensive than before (maybe not with the shorties).

1 & 2. Motorcycles are a personal preference item. You gotta try'em out for yourself. Find someone with the stuff that you want to try. There are lots of people on this board. They are scattered all over the country. I would bet that most of them would let you take a test sit on their motorcycle.
3. Consider them a safety item and stop fretting about the $$.

+1.gif beer.gif Yes my I rode 8-9 hours in one day with my helibars installed with TM, and my corbin saddle. Sore yes....but not that bad all things considered. I believe the helis' come back farther than the Genmars do. I'd sink the money its a worthwhile investment.

As said, the Helibars will give more "lift". I don't have either, I just raised the bars on the forks a little. The Sargent/Corbin will run a little over $300 I think. A few people have had their stock seats redone for quite a bit less to help the comfort.
Helibars and Corbin seat work for me, but I'm 5'10" and 180. Like was said, find someone with the setup you are looking for and ask for a sit or a ride.
For handlebars on my 99, I bought some Honda Hawk GT bars. They fit right on. With these and my Corbin, I've done a couple of long distance rides without a problem. The stock setup used to have me wanting to sell the bike after a long distance trip.
My brother had an 01 VFR for a short time. He put the Heli-bars and a corbin on his. I think his corbin seat was a little higher than mine (mine could've had more miles on it -- broken in better... both were used).
Anyways, the bikes felt very different. We both liked my setup better... so see if you can find some Hawk bars on ebay and try them. At the time, a couple years ago, I paid about $80 for the bars.
On another note: my brother sold his VFR about a year ago, and just 2 weeks ago bought a BMW R1200RT. Very nice bike. Of course I had to try it out. Very comfortable, but I was a little disappointed with the engine. I was hoping for more HP.

Hollowas, what year GT Hawk did the bars come off of and how did it improve the riding position? Anyone know what mm the upper fork tubes are on an 01 VFR?
