As I mentioned I was trying to figure out whether to go with a 2001 5th with 14K miles or a 2002 6th gen with 5K miles. They were both perfect, so one was obviously a better "buy". And... I now have a beautiful 5th generation! I just felt more attached to the 5th gen in terms of styling and sound. I had to drive 600 miles (150 there and back, twice) this weekend but she is now inspected, tagged and ready to roll.
This sucker was super clean and I paid a premium for it. It looks like it was just uncrated. No swirls in the paint or marks on the pipe, not a scatch or nick on it. The mechanic doing the inspection did a double take when he saw the mileage. He said it was expecting to see that it was a complete garage bike. He said, "I can't believe this was ridden".
Anyway, the bike feels great. It reminds be so much of my '86 VFR in sound and feel; but just better in every way.
Thanks everyone for the little extra push in going with the 2001. I know that I made the right choice for me.
The question is... What helmet matches the RED paint better a Race Red Arai or a Monza Red Shoei RF-1000? They both fit well and I can't find a dealer with them in stock.

Hopefully this will be the worst problem that you have with this bike. smile.gif
Shoei visor attachment is much easier than Arai. You can easily remove the visor for cleaning, or even swap visors while you're wearing the helmet. Big advantage, IMO.
Don't worry about the color, you can't see it while you're riding, anyway.
Focus more on getting a close color match on the leathers. Thats much more difficult. Of course, some would consider it unnecessary. I say they just cannot keep up with the coordination ninjas among us.

I think I'll stick with my black Vanson. Red RF-1000 on the way. I'll post some pics shortly. Damn this is a good looking bike! (Sure sounds nice !)

I paid $5200 (with original, unused seat cowl and attached Helibars). I wouldn't say that I stole the bike but I do think that I paid fair market for one that was immaculate (not a single scratch, nick, or scuff and so clean you give a white glove treatment to the chain guard). It did require a couple hundred miles of driving to get there and back but the orginial owner was a nice guy and the drive home was a pleasure.
As for helmets, Arai and Shoei both fit so I played it safe and ordered a Red RF-1000. If anyone knows how I can get one of these in Medium or Large I want one, new or used! It's a 2001 Arai Agostini Replica in Black. It is the best looking helmet I have ever seen. I buddy of mine has one sitting in my house that doesn't fit me. Saweeett!!! I did get good a deal then. I payed $4000 for my '01 with 21k miles, new tires, and chain/sprockets. Its got some scuffs on the tank and sides. I came with the two piece Sargant seat and the passenger one was never opened.
