2008 Vfr Patents - V5 Motor

not sure if this is reliable, but generally when patents are filed the release of the product is near.

V5 - 1000CC
new frame - two pieces

sounds like several groundbreaking changes for the motorcycle world, and the bike many have been salivating over...

If I'm not mistaken this topic has been floating around since August when we were all waiting with baited breath for news on what the 2008 would be.

yep, posted and debunked in August I'm afraid. the 2008 VFr is the same as the 2007 VFr but with dull grey/gray paint :(

We also kicked around the fact that the VFR's CARB emissions' certificate will expire in 2008... so either they stop selling it in California, re-work it and re-certify, or there *might* be something new in '09.

But...don't hold your breath....

I keep thinking that Honda only releases one new sport (or sporty) bike a year. So we had the CBR600 in 06, the CBR1000 in 07... maybe it will be our turn in 08 :)

09 will be a new 600rr. The RRs are on 2 year cycles. So we will probably see a new VFR never, or in the form of a scooter or a V4 in a lawn mower. :rolleyes:

perhaps but a new model is loonggggg overdue!!!!! 1000cc vfr that is no v-tec bring back the gears in the cams

Why are any of us getting any sort of hope up. Also, why do these always turn into VTEC bashing threads, and more cc's?

I am done looking at any thread here that says anything about new VFR, or I heard through the grapevine threads. When I see the official release from Honda, then I might think about it. Right now, we have had nothing but speculation since 2005, when we all hoped that it would be a 4 year cycle. I am tired of the rumors, I want something concrete.

As a matter of fact, Jeremy, Honda has been looking into automatic use of the V-4 design in future large displacement maxi-scooters.......900cc of V-4 Super-Silver-Wing......HHhhhhhmmmm........... :rolleyes:

As of last week, the impeccably credentialed MCN was still floating the rumour that a "new" VFR could surface at the Cologne show...which is this week, and Press Day was yesterday, so I guess that's not going to happen!

Just because they had already announced the 2008 VFR didn't mean they couldn't still announce a different VFR-like bike, but the most likely place for them to do so was INTERMOT, and they didn't...

it may not be a 2008 or 2009, but usually when significant changes and engineering are patented it means they are in development. it may not be a VFR at all, that was only speculation. but i don't think it's that hard to believe that they are looking at producing some bike that sets the motorcycle world on its ear again - there are some pretty radical changes mentioned in these patents.

I'm one of those "I'll believe it when I see it in person - or from an official Honda press release" kinda guys. I'm not counting on (or out) an all-new VFR for '09, but I think it's possible. I think VTEC is probably here to stay, but in the future it could be a true variable valve timing system like Kawi's new Concours 14 uses, and it'll be as much for emissions control as for usable torque and HP.

It would be nice to see more cc's but my 800cc (or 781cc) 6th gen. is certainly powerful enough for me, even with my fat butt on it. Now, loaded and 2-up would be another story, but since I only ride solo it's still not a concern for me.

I'll admit to being dazzled by more powerful bikes like the BMW K1200S, but for now I'm perfectly happy with my current ride.

Do we have to have these kinda threads? I've been disappointed since 2002, when all the hype over the VTec system and how it give more torque at low revs and better fuel economy turned out to be just speculation, rumour, innuendo and marketing hype.

It's painfully obvious Honda pays absolutely NO attention to what the current VFR owners think, say or want. They're pursuing their own agenda, and it's more than likely that either Honda will dump the VFR altogether once sales drop off to an uneconomic level, or they're planning to bring in some even stupider iteration of the VTec that drops two cylinders at cruising speed or switches to battery power or runs on distilled chicken poop.

i didn't post this to lead anyone down the garden path, there are no definite uses for the changes in the patent.
the magazine claims the engine and such will be in a VFR, it may not...
perhaps it'll be used somewhere else. it does show that there is a lot of innovation going on in RD at honda.
i think the new CBR bikes show that the technology is still evolving - honda is far from stale.

the VFR has traditionally been the technological flagship - with inventions both useful and as you suggest, not (although i like my VTEC).
just news and food for thought.

everybody go back to the important stuff like adding a supercharger to your bike, chicken strips or discussion of oil - you know, the important and practical stuff. ;)

Feeling slightly like Charlie Brown and the football, but THIS week's MCN has now said that Honda is "really really" going to release three new models at the Milan show (EICMA) next month, one of which is believed to be the Fireblade-engined Hornet 1000... Or maybe at the Tokyo show in a couple of weeks... Or... :rolleyes:

I spoke with a sales dude at the Dealership yesterday. He told m ea grand story abou thow hos buddy was in europe and saw this big Honda Truck and a mysterious black Motorcycle. When he went to get a closer look, the guys around the truck freaked out and chased him off. Told him has was not allowed to see the bike.

Apparently, after the Honda guys settled down they admitted to him that it was a new model that was coming out soon.

What he did see...... A V5 motor!
