I was just wondering what people have done in place of the stock mirror setup. It really like everything about my bike, after a few mods, but the mirrors. Are there better looking mirrors from other Hondas bikes that will work, maybe aftermarket?? etc.??

Yes. But you don't notice them (they're not ugly). The only difference between the extended and standard is a lump of plastic/metal under the mirror mounting, and longer bolts. I find mine are fine without extenders - best mirrors I've had on a bike. (IMG:style_emoticons/oldemoticons/fing02.gif)
darth bling is working on a mount with gsxr turn signal mirrors, not sure when he will have it all available, do a search for gixxer mirrors or gsxr mirrors in the forum.

I've thought about the same mirrors on my 98 but I wonder if the 2000 mirrors require the extentions to acheive the older style length. Seems like you could find cover the the exposed nut and bolt threads.

I think (I'm not sure) they're the same length. As I said, they give a good view to the rear. Unless you have fat elbows, perhaps! (IMG:style_emoticons/oldemoticons/goofy.gif)

The Y2K (non-condom) mirrors just look nicer, they don't make you see better.
Get the extenders if you want to improve your rear-view, and the Y2K mirrors if you want a better looking scoot.
PS: you'll need:
Y2K mirrors x2 matching rubber gaskets x2 and of course, matching bolts x4
(longer bolts usually come with the extender blocks, I got my blocks off EBAY)
They look a lot cleaner and the extenders can only help. I'm tucking the fat elbow alot since I started commuting daily. Anything to make the freeway easier and safer to negotiate is free money well spent.

Actually, no. The extenders can allow a LOT of vibration (see RC51 story below), since the mirror is now cantilivered out 1+ inch more, AND the longer bolts allow for much more flexing. I have Y2K mirrors on my.....Y2K....and extenders are simply not needed, as enzed viffer mentioned.
I put those same extenders on my RC51, where the OEM mirrors on that narow fairing are notorious for show nothing BUT elbows. But they shook so bad that I decided to cut one of the extender in half lengthwise so that I had two 1/2 inch spacers, and bought shorter bolts at the hardware store. Perfect!!

I've always thought the same thing about the condoms on my mirrors, too... Only recently found out that Y2K mirrors are a bolt-on replacement. I've been watching eBay ever since hoping to pick up a set.
Now that the GSXR mirror mod is ready for the Y2K bikes, it should be a bolt-on replacement for my '96 too... So i'm watching for GSXR mirrors now too.

Yep, absolutley! I meant to mention that. On the RC, where every little bracket and fitting fropm the factory is slender and has lightening holes in them, those big blocks of black plastic looked ridiculous. But because the mirrors are "parts bin" identical to 600 F4, F4I, 929 and 954 units and thus are "vibration designed" for the arm lenth that they have, they just don't cut it on the narrow RC's nose for visibility. So, my 1/2 inch think versions are okay looking and damn necessary to keep from viewing my damn elbows all the time, but I'd rather have a slightly sturdier, longer stemmed version than the spacers.
