Help!oil Leak

any idea why oil would be leaking outta this hole? it is a factory hole, but in the 3 years that i have had the bike i have never had a leak...

Oh, that's an easy one. (Edit: maybe)

You probably need to replace the O-ring on the water pump snout.


When I did my shift kit install, I had an oil leak afterwards, and that O-ring was the cause. I must have nicked it upon installation.


You don't even have to drain the coolant, there's enough play in the water hoses to do the job.

And you don't have to buy the part from Honda either, just source the appropriate sized O-ring from a local supplier.

Size is: 32.95 X 2.62 If you find one that's really close, you should be OK.

Just thought of another possiblity, if the O-ring doesn't cure it, there's two seals on the water pump shaft, one to keep the coolant in the pump, and another to keep the oil in the engine. There's a void in between the two seals to ensure that coolent doesn't get into the oil or vice-versa in the event of a failure. And that's what the hole is for, to allow the fluid to leak and let you know there's a problem.


So basically, if the O-ring isn't the cure, you probably need a new water pump as Honda doesn't sell the seals separately.

You would need item #6 which is the complete water pump assembly, 115 bucks.

oh, the hole that i am talking about is on the Right side of the bike, not the shifter side

oohh, clutch side?? i was going with veefer's theory of the water pump snout. where is the hole? clutch cover, in the block?

it looks like a hole in the block, it is on the right side

a factory hole...right side, below the waterpickup...any ideas??

here you go...now why didn't i think of that

I think it is a drain hole for the spark plugs, they sit deep inside a cylindrical well and sometimes fill up with water so they added a drain. Why it is full of oil I dont know? pull the plugs and see if they are oiley.

thanks...ill do that when it gets painted next month...hopefully its nothing..wonder what it would be, the was a bit of oil down there...i wonder if a certain jackass i know(me) put too much oil in during the last oil change...whats the capacity again?

it may not be oil at all... maybe the spark plugs is loose and unburnt fuel is getting past the plug.... ?
