Heading up to Lee's performance in Charlotte, NC on Tuesday. My bike has been running very rich all of sudden and the engine has been a little on the ruff side.
I don't understand why. I put the PC on back in March and everything seemed perfect, it ran better than normal. But now I can smell the gas in the house when I crank it up its running so rich. Hopefully a custom map will fix this. But does anybody have any idea why it would just change like it did?
Unhook the PC and O2 Elims (if you have them) and see if its still running rich. If its still rich trouble shoot from there, if not you may have a bad PC. You could always download a different map for the PC and see if that changes anything if you don't feel like unhooking it.

Id really like to get it running correctly with the PC installed though because it just ran sooooo smooth when I first put it in.
Question, if you set everything to "0" in the power commander then that will take it back to stock settings correct?
I have a 98 with a K@N filter and race Jardine slip on. Is the Radioshack mod. applicable to my bike? I just installed a pcIII. Bike runs great except for a bit a flatness at 4500 RPM.
Great. I have an '01 too. I've been having troubles with bogging for months. I have the PCIII and did the radioshack eliminators too. I also have a scorpion low mount can and K&N filter.
Not sure if there will be a difference, but see if they'll let you try it with the "normal" way to start the bike and the "turn off, back on" quick start. Some guys on here swear by it. I dont think it makes a difference for my bike.

If you have 02 sensor then you need to eliminate them.

My t-stat is stuck open. It takes awhile for it to warm up. I'll ride thru the city streets a little before getting on the highway since air flow at slow speeds helps. I even have the right radiator blocked on both sides.
I know it needs to reach 170F to be in "warm" mode. But it'll still bog down at any temp.

Radio Shack is the best Mod. I've heard on a few occasions of P.C. elims, going bad. Every bike has a flat spot. IMHO, it's just a factor of how in tuned with your bike you are.
If you have 02 sensor then you need to eliminate them.

LOL. FIX THAT, THERMO ALREADY! LOL. The fuel mix will never be right untill it is working. Cylinders are prolly gett'n loaded, too.

Yup, sorry. My bad. (2000, 2001). I was just thinking 5th gen.
The Zero Map on the PCii will simulate the stock settings IF the PCii is working correctly. A better way would be to unhook it entirely (its just unsnapping and re-connecting a couple connectors) which will be SURE to remove it from the system. This is a better way to isolate if it your problems are related to it. A good percentage of the PCii problems are related to incorrect or bad ground connections. ALWAYS check this first. So many people have fixed their issues by grounding it directly to the battery terminal. Next, some have experienced bad PC units. But you have to check the first before you can know the second.
BTW, I live in Charlotte. Let me know how you make out at Lee's, I've never been. I would like to get a custom map made but need to wait until after I add a slip-on exhaust...!

You're talking about the ground wire on the PCII, right? Do you know which one it is?
Enzed - I haven't looked in a while, but isn't there only one wire?? I thought the power was from the wiring harness and the only black wire was the ground. This should be connected directly to the Neg terminal on the battery.
** I just found an image of one online and it looks like there may be two wires - the ground should be the only black one, the one with a "C"-shape terminal attached to it.
After having all sorts of problems with maps, a few weeks ago I installed a zero map with just a few minor tweaks below 4k rpm, extra fueling at high revs and some ignition advance. The bike has been running better than it ever has! I still have issues with it running a bit odd when it gets really hot, but I don't think that has anything to do with fueling, as it does that without the PC installed.
Sometime this year I may get a custom map done, as there are now two places that do them here. Just have to save up NZ$350 for it.
BTW - I have found that occasionally the PC seems to go a bit cranky for some reason, making the fueling very bad. Disconnecting / reconnecting it seems to fix this, as does removing one of the battery terminals for a while.

As others have mentioned, unplug it completely from the system and see if you notice the same issues. If not, then you probably have found the problem.....a bad PC.
My '03 started getting crappy mileage all of a sudden, unplugged the PC and mileage went back up. Sent it in to Dyno Jet and they sent me a new one.
