I took the bike out for a 30 minute ride with the bike outside temp at 71 deg F. I noticed the following;
-50 MPH
-5000 RPM
-Third/fourth gear
-Temperature at 230 deg F average
-At a stop
-1500 RPM
-Neutral/Clutch pulled in
-Temperature at 210 deg F average
I knew the VFR runs warm. Is this something to be concerned about? Thanks
ANY time high temps are experienced you should check coolant level after removing radiator cap .......after bike has completely cooled down. Check level in overflow too.
Its not overheating but it does seem a bit high for such a short ride. My 01 generally ranges anywhere from 170 to 200 in mild weather at speed. When at a stop it can range around 200-220 in mild temperatures depending on how long I sit there.
230 average, or maximum? If not maximum, how high does it go?
Normal operating temp is 170-220. Fan turns on at 220 and turns off at 200. 250 is considered overheating.
The temp seems a little bit on the high side, but it is still normal. Keep your eyes on it and if the temps keep going up then it is time to check it out what causes the high temp.
I can't figure out why your riding temp is higher than your idle temp. Usually the bike will top 200 when sitting at a light and go down to like 180-190 while riding.
When was that last time you gave your cooling system good flushing? I found a lot of gunk and silt in the reservoir when I did mine last spring. It made the bike run a little cooler. I put in the Engine Ice coolant while I was at it.
That got my attention with the temp being higher moving vs sitting. I flushed it recently.

I checked the fluid level and it's low. I changed the fluid several months back and the bike sat. I figured it would be okay. Hopefully reservicing and ensuring no air is present will fix it.

Ya, I'm gonna say your baby need burped. Just throw her on your shoulder and pat her back.
Just replaced my t-stat and made 100% sure she's burped. In town mine has no problem reaching 200F. At 50mph she'll kinda keep same temp, but 60 is when she starts to cool down.
