Cobalt Racing

Anyone know if this Company / Person is still in business. He was making racing parts / bodies for the VFR. I beleive he was located in Ohio (Asheville) ??? :idea3:

Chuck Crites, Cobalt Racing, is still manufacturing VFR parts. He is in full production for the 86-87 and has the complete line for those years.

He is currently creating molds for the 3rd generation but with a nice twist. He will be producing a single piece nose cone to replace the 3 piece OEM style. He will produce a single piece tail cowl to replace the 4 piece OEM style and a single piece side panel to replace the 2 piece OEM style. I think he'll be making a replacement front fender as well. If he gets to it, he may even make a tank.

He has a 4th gen in the hopper as well.

I think he still makes the wheel spacers for the 86-87 years so you can use the F2/3 wheels.

I don't think that Cobalt Racing, per se, exists any longer.

However, if you want to contact Chuck Crites, he is known as "vfrchuck" on eBay. Just search for his eBay user name, and you can get a message to him that way.

Some time ago, I purchased his after-market fiberglass rear seat cowl (the OEM rear seat cowl is ABS plastic) and it fits just fine; well made.

If you can't find him through eBay, his business card is sealed in the underside of the cowl (not handy at the moment). So, I could get his contact information off of that. Send me a private message if you can't reach him through eBay and I'll get that contact information to you.

I'm in the process of building a Bubba Shobert Replica. Still lots of work to do before it hits the track. Need some goodies from Chuck (body bits) ... changing the rear subframe to a full aluminum section light up whatever I can. Dead loss ignition system ... engine mods etc .... :thumbsup:

I'm in the midst of researching that just now. So far, I've decided to install Dynatek DC3-1 coils (four of them, of course). (I've communicated quite a bit with the Tech Support guy at Dynatek over this, and this is his recommendation.) They match-up best: 3 ohms primary resistance, 14K ohms secondary resistance. The OEM coils are 2 to 4 ohms primary, and 13K to 17K secondary, WITHOUT the plug / ignition wires. He is also suggesting their DW-200 ignition wires. These are solid-core, copper wires.

The physical design of the Dynatek coils is not the same as the OEM coils. So, it is going to take some modifications to get them installed, especially the coils for cylinders 1 and 3; by comparison 2 and 4 are more simple. However, there is something I STILL have to figure out. The OEM ignition wires / plug wires have resistance built into them (at the end of the wire, where they attach to the plug terminal). That is to say, yes, the secondary resistance of the coils ALONE is 13K to 17K. However, WITH the OEM plug wires and caps, the secondary resistance is 17K to 24K ohms (I�m getting all this info from the Haynes Manual). So, I am attempting to determine if I have to build that resistance into the after-market plug wires or if I can run the Dynatek wires, without the �extra� resistance.

Also, I got all excited about the Dynatek Dyna 2000 Performance Digital Ignition, only to be disappointed to learn that this ignition is applicable ONLY to in-line four cylinder bikes. (Note on the link below, that the Honda applications are for Honda�s CB and CBR models, all in-line four bikes.) Man, would I love it if about five hundred VFR owners got on Dynatek�s case and said, �Hey, what about us?� (I went around and around with the Dynatek Tech Support guy, who said that there simply has been no demand for such a product, applicable to the V4s.)

This is all to say that, so far, I have not learned of or located an after-market performance upgrade �spark box.� If you figure that one out, please let me know. For me, there is another complication: my bike is a �gray market� bike. The OEM (Oki) �spark box,� part number 30410-ML7-922, is peculiar to two Honda bikes only, the �88 VFR750FJ (RC24) and (my bike) the �89 VFR750FK (RC24).

I also just installed NGK Iridium plugs, #DPR9EIX-9, but don�t ask me how they �feel,� because the bike is in about fifty pieces just now. (I�m waiting for a Barnett Clutch Kit to be delivered: friction plates, clutch plates, and springs � it is their kit #303-35-10012, if that information is of any interest to you.)

Good that you have something tangible to build to then, as opposed to hunting for pics!

We should get on Dynatek's case. Dave Dodge researched and supplied them with ignition curves to use long ago, still nothing from them! Give him a call (www.drp123.com) and ask him about it and his recommendations. :thumbsup:

This is no replica, this is the original Honda HRC that Bubba Shobert won the number one plate. I have pictures of the bike unmasked as well. There are parts on the bike that Bill Gates might be able to afford, but out of my league .... Magnesium front fork bottoms, carbs ($22,000.00) if you are lucky enough to find a set .. only 4 sets were ever made. Full HRC engine goodies and the list goes on !!

Fix, no. He only polished half the swingarm, I would assume that as with all my bikes, the project is never finished... would be nice if he did the rest of it and the frame too! :thumbsup:

But he welded new end on brake side and left the otherside stock
