Help! Who Knows How To Install A Staintune High-mount On A 5th Gen?

Can anyone provide some assistance in helping me install a Staintune high-mount muffler on my '99 VFR800?  I ordered the exhaust system through motorsports-network.com, and it arrived a few days ago.  It was $494.99, with free shipping, which is the best price I could find.

First off, the installation instruction sheet is HORRIBLE!!   :goofy:   It basically says take the old muffer off, install the Staintune in the reverse order of Step #1, and call it a day.  Some help that is!!  Installation procedures are certainly not as self-evident as they claim.  

The shipping carton contains a parts checklist, and according to the guy who completed it, all the parts are supposed to be there.  But it's apparent that I'm missing at least three small fasteners.  The parts checklist states I should have received a small bolt and two washers, but I didn't.  Shouldn't there be another set of bolts/washers/etc. for mounting the other end?  

Now for the mounting part of it... I received a long metal bar (about 6") with a hole with one end and a small piece on the opposite end (on a 90-degree angle) that is offset with 2 holes - this is supposed to be the rear mounting bracket.  I can't figure out where this piece is supposed to mount on the bike.  The front mounting bracket is only about 2.5" long, and looks like it might fit.  I haven't tried to tackle the project yet, I've only went out to the garage and tried to imagine how these parts are supposed to go together.  But I wanted to get some advice before I do something that I might regret later.

I'm planning on calling CBT Imports, the US distributor, for some advice (including a request to send me the parts I seem to be missing), but thought I'd see if any of you kind folks out there might be able to lend some insight through personal experience.  I'm not an expert mechanic, so any help with the installation and concerning how many nuts/bolts/washers I should have received would be greatly appreciated.  Photos would be great!

Eric maybe i can help. First off the 6 in with offset attaches as follows. The offset goes on top where your grab handle mounts are. The offset would go under your grab handles if your using them . The single hole in the 6 in piece goes down and bolts to the back end of the tune. I think its a 1/4 20 bolt and washer if im not mistaken. Found some pics

I dont run with my grab handles on those are spacers on top of the angeled bracket....Hope this helps

Eric just take your seat and old pipe off and I think you will see it is quite straighforward. One bolt at footrest, the rightangle one down from the seat and tighten at the collector. Some high temp sealant is recommended at the collector.  The quality of the welds and workmanship on these is excellent. This pic may also help. Cheers.

Thank you very much for your replies.  I'm a bit clearer on the whole thing now (but not totally).  I found some installation info on another VFR website - here is the link:  http://pages.cs.wisc...fr/aftermarket/   Now I'm wondering about the small front mounting bracket.  The writer on this site states that "the other stepped piece mounts under the left passenger grip to keep the grips at an equal height".  Isn't this piece used as a front mounting bracket, as the parts list that I have states?   If so, does this mount on the right side footpeg somehow??  Do I need bolts/washers of some kind?  As stated before, the box I received didn't contain any fasteners.

He also states that  "if you are using the rear sear cowling instead of the grips, you'll have to buy shorter bolts."  I do use the seat cowl all the time.  I'm not sure why shorter bolts would be needed when using the seat cowl...  what's up with this??

To end your frustration, I will just trade you for my Two-Bros carbon and Micron high mount mid pipe  :salesman:

I run with my rear cowl on all the time too and didnt use shorter bolts ... i think once you get at it you will see its pretty straightforward.

Instructions ? Take the old muffler off and slide the Staintune in place. Tighten the clamp at the front of the connector pipe and put a bolt through the OEM mufflers mounting hole in the passenger footpeg. Takes about 5 min. Done.

Hi guys,

Thanks to all of you for helping me out.  I got my Staintune installed this weekend without too much aggravation.  I first needed to buy some shorter bolts for the rear mounting bracket, since I don't use the passenger handgrips and the top of the mounting bracket can't be fastened down tightly with the factory bolts (the handgrip mount acts as a spacer).  I also did need to take a pliers and slightly bend the front of the pipe where it mounts to the mid-pipe/collector on the bike, as the pipe wasn't wide enough to fit over the mid-pipe (I guess that's why there are slots cut into the end of the pipe so it could be bent outward a little bit if needed to make it fit).

Anyone interested in my old Two Brothers slip-on which I don't need anymore?  I am planning on listing it on eBay this week.
