Dodgy Exhaust On 86 750?

Hi,

Ive just bought an 86 VFR750 and have noticed that the exhaust is not quite stock, it looks like one of the pipes has been cut and just welded into the other to turn the 4-2 exhaust into a 4-2-1 exhaust, I am not to worried, but it looks like an original muffler off of a twin system and sounds quite loud.

Could you let us know if this setup is ok? and if the muffler is satisfactory? eg not too restrictive, And what would be a cheap, but nice muffler to add?

Hi mine is the same and has been for years .
as long as the job is neat i can't think of any reason to be worried

mine is very loud because the person before me has taken out the muffler too

ST3V0, your bike looks great.

I think I might keep the setup but get a new muffler.

Thats not stock its an old supertrapp. Should be plenty open and loud

mine is that loud im often stopped by the old bill (police)
lucky for me it is BS stamped.

at the same time it turns a few heads too :thumbsup:

So, would you say that this system is ok for road use?

Yes i do aprox 47 miles a day on mine to work and i have a lot of rides out too.
I don't think you have anything to be worried about.
I ride my bike everyday.

Yeah, I get a few turned heads when I let her rip :P
But I dont want to be stopped by the police every day, the bike came with a RWC "road worthy cert" so I should just be able to take it back to the guy who sold it to me to get the sound muted a bit.

These bikes are built to last mine has been around the clock twice and she still starts up first time.
fantastic machines and they got some guts too.
i can keep up with all my friends and they have newer bikes

Are you still having the overheating problem?
if so check your coolant it is located on the left hand side opposite the battery.
just wip off the side panel check the levels

After the upgrade from the ex250 I havent stopped smiling http://www.vfrdiscus...tyle_emoticons/default/smile.gif
I rode it 400km non stop last week and the temp stayed well low, so I think it is just to be expected that she will get a little warm in city driving.
Tomorrow im going to replace all fluids and filters, and might throw in a new thermostat for something to do.
