Bad news boys and girls........


My local stealership let me in on the news that the 2009 VFR will be modelled after the DN01, both 600 and 1000cc varieties......
there have been reports of people having seen them on the road (pre-production probably). go and scour the net...

this is sick, very sick and hope it is not true.

The dealer hoped he could get me interested in upgrading my 4th gen.......... NOT!!!

This is really premature, but I'll go ahead and say that it might not be as bad as you think. I actually kind of like the DN-01, but if a new VFR is similarly styled it had better be a real and mostly sporty motorcycle, and not a scooter dressed in motorcycle clothing. And of course a V4 engine!

Nothing against scooters, mind you, but there is a big difference between a VFR and the DN-01.

I'm not finding anything more recent than last summers MCN and similar articles. Nothing will likely hit the press here in the States until August-ish anyway. We'll probably have to wait until then to see just how bad American Honda is going to rail it's customers this time. Crap color coices? Not importing the model to begin with? Who knows? Until then, I've finally got a Blackbird.

Unfortunately it is no joke. The Honda/Duc/Yammy dealer next to my workplace send me some footage of the new viffer and called me shortly therafter, laughing in my face that I now belong to the cruiser/scooter/riding toilet crowd. Not that there is realy anything wrong with that, but after looking at the pics that leaked(?) from a Japanese website I threw up a little The new viffers (codename SD-01 and SD-02) are even worse than the DN-01 Rumours are both are still vtec engines, the 600 may even be a three cilinder but the dealer had serious doubts about that and expects it to have the variable cilinder management (Honda's VCM) Honda has been developing for some time now, or the 600 from the DN-01 with auto tranny!!! . They were developing the VCM for the new "blackbird" but it looks now it will be on the new VFR first. And now for the horrible footage (apart from the wheels) SD01

Well according to this "official Honda" UK dealer, Hunts Motorcycles the DN-01 is due in Feb/Mar 2008. I guess they were taking deposits on it last year. Anybody over there riding one yet? :wacko:

Oh the DN-01 is real and for sale outside the US, but that's not the joke that's going around here about it being the new VFR. :rolleyes:

Found mostly the same thing on another site, too. Looks like this is a Suzuki scooter concept, NOT the "new" VFR.

Well.....I guess I'm just different..........I never "dislike" any bike of any kind until I've ridden it. I know (if it ever really happened) the VFR being replaced by a "scooter-sport-cruiser" type bike would be a big let down, but I'm still not gonna' dislike any of this stuff until I ride it and make a true judgement call based on my personal evaluations. I'll be on the DN-01 for a spin as soon as it hits the USA and someone lets me................. :fing02:


EDIT: Falls under (IMO) the same catagory as "I don't want any hydraulic disc brakes on my motorcycle.....master cylinder blow, and I got no brakes".....................late 60s- early 70s opinion heard over and over by bikers........ :biggrin:

I don't think that skooter/cruiser will be badged as a VFR. It is a cruiser with an automatic transmission. The goal with that bike is to attract more buyers to the cruiser market who may be scared off by clutch and gears.

Now, if that third pic of the VFR was the new one? I might try to find a way to get one!! Sell the car??

Yes, but it only has one little NACA duct!!!!

So working for a Honda dealer for some time now has taught me to NEVER, I mean NEVER believe any of the rumors or pics about a new bike coming out. Honda does an excellent job of keeping a tight lip on things. I mean, even at the 08 dealer preview of the CBR1000RR, they took your camera and cell phones before they let you see it! Just wait for the dealer convention in Fall, then we'll see...

(I am personally thinking the VFR will get BNG's)

Skuuter has it right. Odds are that DN-01 will be a fun little skoot. I wouldn't BUY one, but it'll attract new 'riders' to our sport and get people out of cages. Good for traffic, the environment, gas prices, peoples perceptions of us, etc. I�m happy if any product gets people out of cages and on 2 (or 3) wheels.

Did anyone believe that Suzuki would put a Honda VFR decal on one of their scooters? C�mon�

Yup, my 2005 Interceptor has the exact same license plate light, made by Stanley, as my 1983 Interceptor... :laugh: :comp13:

Not to mention the boxy turn signals STILL being used on a few bikes now, including the CBR600RR. I think it's way past time to retire those things! Even Yam. and Kaw. put a little effort into updating their stock signals a couple years ago. And they look much better now IMO.

For all the wailing and gnashing of teeth, no one except Honda knows what will happen with the VFR for '09. My guess is either kill it or produce a whole new bike. I think the bike has run its course. It's still a great machine, but it's time to do something with it, even if that's discontinue it for now and maybe revive it later.

Tim, my feelings exactly about Honda's insistant use of the "ugliest turnsignals in the world" on their sport bikes....."DINOSAURISH" to say the least. "French Em" into the bodywork, or at least "slim-n-trim" em'............ :dry:

Honda needs to pay attention. If they were smart they would leak something horrible like this that was false and guarantee everyone would be happy with bold new graphics. Their marketing folks really need to sharpen up.

I've seen several DN-01s on the road now. It is not to bad, but not as handy as a real scooter like the silverwing. It is to wide to laneshare in havy traffic.

And to the people who insist that the SD-01 is not a Honda but a Suzuki: you're just in denial. Bailyrock seems even a bit traumatised judging by what he comes up with :biggrin:

Man...that is so sad. I can not believe it. How do you say "Oh shit" in Japanese. I think that's what the engineers were saying when it started dragging. Style wise, I don't have issues with it AS LONG AS it is not the next VFR!!!!!JD

If that is the new VFR, I sure am glad I got my 6th. That thing is fugly!!! If I wanted to sit up straight like that I would have bought a cruiser.

Only three weeks away from the releases for 09. Everyone just stay patient and chill out.

ok for the record, the DN01 is *not* the same as the SD01 scooter.....its a totally different bike that thus far hasnt been imported to the US.

now as for the DN01 being rumored as the next platform on which the VFR is to be built, i could live with it given a few changes, i.e. lose the floorboards, raise the seat height, get a more sporty seating position (cause that seating position on the DN01 now looks too much like a cruiser and not enough like a sport touring bike). i do kinda dig the lines and the styling...at least theyre new and ya gotta admit, at first glance the bike looks cool....it just seems to ride like a monstrosity.

lets see what honda comes up with. who knows, this may be another empty MCN style rumor that ends up as nothing but sand through your fingers. (tho im STILL buying a blackbird the first chance i get!!)
