Rear Passenger Footpeg Brackets

I'd like to clean up the back of my bike by removing the rear passenger footpeg brackets.

But this presents some problems: On the left side there would be nothing to grab when lifting the bike onto the centerstand. On the right side there would be nothing on which to bolt the rear shock preload adjustment knob (ABS model). Plus I would lose the nice tiedown attachment points on the top of the brackets.

One possible alternative would be to cut up the OEM bracket like this:

But the bracket is not a solid casting. It is ribbed:

Thus after cutting there would be an ugly opening remaining at the bottom of the bracket. I suppose I could fill in the gap with something like epoxy, fiberglass, or JB-weld and then paint it all black, but I don't know how durable that would be over the long term. Plus I'd lose the option to return everything back to stock form later.

So my question is: does anyone know of an aftermarket replacement for the rear brackets that would preserve the "handle" portion but delete the "footpeg" part?

Maybe there's a machinist out there in VFRD-land who'd be interested in making something neat and simple out of barstock?
This seems like a nice niche product that would interest other VFR owners.

Any other ideas?

My reason to not leave them off entirely was to retain the mounting location for the saddlebag brackets.

If I ever get bags, I still have what I need. Plus, the left one is great for pulling baby up on centerstand. :fing02:

Seb and Veefer had some good ideas. Here's how mine came out.

I used an air tool with cutoff wheel to remove the bracket and ground the remaining stubs smooth with a 50 grit pad. Then I JB-Welded some aluminum plates into the holes:

I also ground off the hook on the end of the handle, filled in everything with more JB-Weld, and sanded off the existing silver paint with 220 grit:

I would have kept the holes on the ends, but that's just me. I'm going to try and put a camera there next season...

You don't have to cut them!!! I just took the preload adjuster off the bracket and mounted it to one of the holes (can't get it to line up with both holes) on the frame for the passenger bracket with a shorter bolt. I'm going to paint the bolts black so they blend in better and it will be good to go.

I also just removed the entire saddle bag assembly in one piece so it will only take me +/-20 minutes to put back on when I need the bags. Really cleans up the look of the rear end of the bike. I'll post pictures when I get the bike back in the garage on Friday if you want!

That's my plan for the righthand side. For the lefthand side I wanted to keep the handle portion of the bracket as a place to grab when lifting onto the centerstand.

Wow. I'm thinking now I'd like to have a spare set so I can make that mod!
