Cbr Damper Questions

I'm trying to source the CBR dampers to install in the fork tubes of my 01 vfr (while I'm replacing the bent tube(s)).

there are two different damper assemblies in the fiche, for the cbr forks (a 94 to early 95, part number and then a 95 to 98 part number). Both use the same fork caps and springs, but the 95-98 dampers are on back order until october.
Can I just use the earlier 94-95 dampers for this modification? or do I have to wait until 10/08.

I'll know before noon on tuesday if the 04-95 pieces are available and will work,
Then I'd like to order them.

If not I guess I have to start searching for some solid used ones.

Well I guess this question is a moot point now.

When I checked with Mother Honda today, I found out that only ONE of the dampers is on back order and the october date has been retracted.
Whether that means that the second damper is going be available sooner or later, I don't know.

What I do know is that it means that I probably should not even consider the late 94-early 95 part as it probably won't operate the same as the 96 and later damper.

I guess I should be happier, In that if one is on its way, I may only have to source one from a local salvage yard.

Does anyone have an info that would help?

Is there a reason you don't want to use a new(er) Scotts, GPR or Ohlins?

he is talking about fork internals

I think he's talking about the rebound and compression valving.

I tried both in my '98, but found the compression side to be too harsh.   I ended up ripping it out and putting in the Racetech Gold valves on the compression side and leaving the CBR rebound valve with rod and cap.  That worked really well.

If I were to do it over again, I'd probably buy both rebound and compression valves from racetech, and not worry about the rebound adjustability.

Miguel has an excellant write up on this site about installing the aftermarket valves.

95-98 should be nearly the same.  Externally they are identical.  I've heard the 95-96 rebound valves are better.  I have a set of 97 stock cartridges in my 95 VFR but I'm planing on swaping the internals of the cartridges to the VFR cartridges because the fork top out spring is in the wrong place.  I also have 98 forks on my F2 V7 race bike with race tech valving, I love the feel I get from them.  If you put them in remember the shim stacks and valving use different weight oil.

well it looks like I only have to patient another couple of days and the parts will be shipping.

Then the Phoenix will begin it's return to the road.
