Bt 21 Rear Beyond The Wear Bar

You Bt 21 rear guys, I've got a 700 mile trip and 300 of it is course road twisties, Bt 21 rear is right at the wear bar. I think it can make it, but how far can the tire go into the cord?

I', just kissing the wear bar, far as I can tell there one full mm, to begin core entry.

Too risky to chance?

I wouldn't take the chance, that last little bit seems to go fast.

With that many twisty's in your future, there is no other feeling like a nice new tire. :fing02:

I forgot, I will ride tomorrow alittle bit so it would be more than 800 mile, till I could change it, if I dont do it tomorrow afternoon.

I've got a New tire, just wanted every ounce I could get out of this one, but I knew it was a bit of a gamble.

I was gonna ride light tomorrow to try and save the tire for sunday trip, but I think I'll just ride normal and go change the tire in the afternoon.

:+1: Yeah I did that once on just a 200 mile day. Needless to say, I was on threads and didn't know if I would make it home. When we changed the tire, I felt the center and it was, seriously, paper thin.

Better safe than sorry from now on.......tires are THE most important thing on your bike!

I was trying to save a few bucks by not mounting a new tire last Friday when I went to Arkansas for three days. Consequently, I had to wait three hours for my wife to bring my spare wheel and tire to me and then ride 210 miles at night.

This is why I have a HF tire changer. So I can have it both ways ................eek out the extra mile and start trips on tires good to go the distance.

My 21 rear/front at 5,000 miles.....................no more miles although I could have coaxed a few more miles out of the front............but very uneven wear.

With PP's, I have 300 miles before cords when I hit the wear bars and avg. 2200 miles from a rear.

I do NOT suggest it, but I road 150 miles home when the cords just started to show. Worst case would be a slow flat IMO and I would be that much closer to home for a trailer ride if it did go down, it did not. :blush:

That was a Power in my picture and it was no big deal when it flatted. I did ride an additional 6 squirmy miles on it to the next town. 100 miles on a Power is a safe bet when cords show but like you I wouldn't recommend it unless absolutely necessary. Buy new rubber!

I figured that the cords were only showing in the middle, so we took the twisty way home to say off the center of the tire! :laugh:

When wear bars even with tread ..............replace the tire unles you are a cheap bast......... or live where it does not rain for six months a year.

Wear bars on the front BT21. The rear is pretty much gone. You can barely see the wear bar on the new Roadsmart.

Showing cupping with a photo is a challenge but the my front 21 here had rotten/uneven wear, feathering and was history.

I've got about 11k on my Pirelli Diablo Strada extended mileage sport touring tires and they still don't need replacing. My guess is they'll need replacing in about 3k more (maybe even 4k, but that would be it.)

Describing cupping without a good hi-res image is difficult. The uneven wear/feathering BVFr mentioned covers it. What happens is the leading edge of one tread block wears more than the trailing edge of the adjacent block. If the blocks were uniformly square, you'd notice a sawtooth effect.
