I ordered a set of Staintunes for my '03 from motorsports-network.com. I got them on Monday, and when I was checking them over, I realized there is a nice big dent in the collector tube, just in front of where the right muffler connects. I e-mailed motorsports-network, and here's what they had to say...

---

We checked with Staintune today, and like we thought, there should be a manufactured dent for clearance purposes. Please look where this clearance would be needed, like for the kick stand.

You can confirm with Shari at the US importer that this dent should be there - 800-782-4686.

If there is still a problem please contact us ASAP so we can take care of this. I believe, however, it is supposed to be there.

---

It almost looks like something was dropped on it at the factory. There aren't any marks on the tube from something hitting it, there wasn't any damage to the packaging, and the other components are in perfect shape. I just doubt there is supposed to be a dent there. I can't imagine it would be good for the exhaust flow. Can someone who has a set of Staintunes let me know if this dent is there on theirs?

Thanks!

Yes, mine has the same dent too.  It's there because the rear body work come very close at that point.  Put it on and you will see.  Good Luck.

Yep, my 2 year old set has the same "dent," and yes, it is supposed to be there. If you look at the rear cowl, there is a small lip on the right side. The indentation is there to provide clearance for that lip.

As to efficiency, it may have an impact, but is most likely unnoticable.

I have a feeling every Staintune dealer that sells to a vtec owner gets that very question. I think there was a thread about this when the pipe was first released.

Yup mines got it too and I called CBT Imports and asked why it's there. They told me that it's there to clear the remote preload adjustment knob on the ABS version of the VTEC. So us non ABS guys have to live with a dent in our collector pipes. :shake:

No big deal... :D

I thought the same thing (that it was dropped or something) because I didn't see any marks within the dent.  They must have a jig made up and hit it with a rubber mallet or place it into a press.  Nice looking dent though isn't it... :P

Sweet - I guess I can finish installing it tonight then.  Thanks!

Too bad it snowed here last night - now I'm going to have to trailer it somewhere warm to test 'er out.

I installed my set last February in my buddys garage and then cranked the bike over with the spuds out and the garage doors closed. The sound was phenomenal...After hearing that V4 music there was no doubt I bought the right pipes. Enjoy!

Yup, I'm yet another one who wondered if mine were damaged during shipping.   :D

Is $720 the best price we can get in the states for VTEC Staintunes??
#10
I just picked mine up from Sherri at cbt imports and before she even handed them to me she pre-emptively told me to NOT worry about a dent I will notice in the pipes.  So she must have heard you folks! :)

GPH, GaryAOR is selling a few at $675 to the vtec group on yahoo (http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/VtecVFROwners/message/6361), but he has to add $30 for Cali residents (so that would be $705 to you), so $720 is not too bad.  He and cbt imports also told me that these pipes are going up about $200 after Feb 1.

$720 was the best price I could find.  Motorsports-network shipped everything right away, and I had them less than a week later.  They offered free shipping and a free cargo net when I ordered them on the 31st, but I'm not sure if they are still doing that.

All in all, I'm happy...

whoah, they are going up to over $900? They were $550 when first released. Looks like I'll be getting Erions when the time comes...

I dont know whats going on with that price increase on tunes?  That would be the second price increase on the VTEC staintunes?  It is the top selling VTEC system and the price goes UP?  I know they are redesigned after the first price increase and the materials were a bit more, whats the problem now?  You would expect a good selling item to actually come down in price.  Anybody know what the price increase is about this time?

Maybe there taking out the dent in the collector pipe... :goof:

Count me among the people that thought my pipe had been damaged.  As soon as I mounted it, it was apparent that the dent was manufactured for clearance.

I got my Staintunes for $720 from Motorsports-network and they arrived the next day.  Great service and of course I love the tunes from the 'tunes.

I recieved my set of tunes today from a seller on e-bay. The seller told me they had a small dent but wasn't noticable. I looked at a set a couple of weeks ago that seemed to have the same dent, and the seller said he didn't know how it got there.
After doing a search on this site I feel better knowing it's supposed to be there.
