Sounds like only about $500 worth of resale parts...

Not sure about your math skills....The headers alone sell for what...$250? Rotors and wheels alone are more than $500. Plenty of good parts there...and he could always offer them less than $1300
Make sure your gear gets paid for, and all upgrades are also accounted for (or you get them back if they won't pay you for them)
Do you have replacement insurance? I know when Josh had his VFR taken away from him by a truck, if he got a replacement within 30 days, Progressive paid the sales tax.

There's a dark silver 2008 non-ABS listed for $8899 at the dealer down here. That color looks awesome in person! It's the worst dealer I've ever been to (new powerhouse style that sells everything but Honda cars), but if they have what you want for cheap, that shouldn't stop you! :goofy:
If you have room to disassemble and hold on to the parts I think you can easily make your money back.. You also have a rear light assembly, full intake/injection assembly, fuel pump, possibly radiator(s), rear shock, passenger pegs and probably a bunch of small but expensive parts you can pull. It just takes some work to strip and sell it.
You can make your money back at minimum, and you'd be helping people out instead of letting it go to rot in some salvage yard... that's what I would do if I could!
I think you should buy it back too. It sounds to me like you have a place to tear it apart and you can easily recoup $1300. Remember, most 6th gen engine parts are identical to 5th gens too.
Have you tried haggling the price down yet? Definitely buy it back. I ended up doing the same with my old ZX600R and for $500 bucks at a salvage yard was able to get a new frame, front fender, forks, and a rotor to put it all back together again on top of buying an 02 Yamaha R6 to replace it with.
So you could either part it out (I've heard several interested members all ready here) or you could try your luck at the local salvage yard as a rebuild. Either way you can make your $1300 back. Besides, you could learn a lot by rebuilding a bike. :fing02:
The bolts and various hardware are worth a couple hundys. It is a hassle but if your inclined you could definately make some $$ here & help out a few brothas. On the other hand you could remove the PC3 and anything elso non critical & let them have it, buy a bike and go ride. Good luck w/ the decision.

Agreed, tell them you'll give them half that and take it off their hands. I don't know about you, but my bike is more like my dog than a vehicle... it's the loss of a loved one. I guess if you still owe on it then that is a consideration, but that should be between you and the lender, not the insurance co (but if state specific I could be wrong). I bought my "totaled" 2001 S10 back from state farm for $500, then got that refunded because they bungled some paperwork.
One way or another, definately DO NOT take the first offer from the insurance company. Counter them low at first to almost laugh in their face. If you're prepared to wait a little, they'll come back with something in between and you still have options.... Also, this way you don't come across as too 'really want it' cause then they'll they have you hooked.

Offer 900 to buy it back, and get it back on the road and have 2 bikes. My friend bought back his 04 for I think 1300.00 then took the insurance money, bought a track bike and ebayed the parts he needed to get the VFR back in shape. Looks great and little effort to come out with 2 bikes for 1.
I think if you buy it it sill save the title from being branded as salvaged,
You will easaly be able to sell it for a profit without parting it if they do not take your title.
I think if they give you a check for 80% of the value it is not totaled
my buddy wrecked his truck they said the total value was 12k if he wanted they would give him 9600 & he could keep the truck & the clean title or give it to them & get the 12 He took the 9600 & we gheto fixed it & maaco painted it for about 2k total. looks ok & being it his his work truck & he will drive it into the ground what the hell

What is the frame like? If it is good, you could just rebuild it. And if you are handy, do it for cheap... I rebuilt my 98 for 1500 or so and upgraded parts in the process.

I agree...buy it back. You may not get it for 900 but close to it if you keep at it. A few years ago I went to buy back a 4th gen from an insurance company who wanted 1300. Got them down to 900...which I felt was still too high. They also gave me back more than I paid for the bike. With that, I had one wrecked bike to play with and bought another 4th gen with cash left over to put into the wrecked bike or my new to me 4th gen. You can always make your money back and more parting it out but, as stated above if your not used to selling, packaging, shipping, ebay, paypal account, etc. it can be a PITA. I would say though, by the sound of the offers already made here you should be good to go.
I'd be interested in the headers.... ;) And maybe some other parts if you part it out. But, didn't you say you still have a set of red plastics? You could prolly buy it back and rebuild it pretty cheap.
Has it been taken to a shop for an estimate to have it repaired? I would also pick it up from the shop or where it is being kept if you don't already have it in your possession....that is if you are thinking of keeping it.
In my experience there was no negotiation w/ Progressive, pay the 25% or wave as we haul it off. I payed close to that for my 5th gen that had close to 3K(retail) in upgraded stuff that was all still useable so it was a no brainer for me.
Ryan, don't forget to factor in the cost of going to Cashiers, NC and back to Grand Rapids to retrieve it. That is gonna cost you at least 300 in fuel alone in a truck to do it, plus your time as well.
You know it's all the little bitty stuff that ends up nickle and dime'ing (new word) ya. Ya all the big stuff, visible stuff is toast but once you start stripping there may be more than you know that is good. I would get it if you plan on getting another 6th gen. Just my opinion.
