Short Throw Throttle

I did some searching but didn't really come up with any good information. Does anybody know if there is a relatively simple short throw throttle kit out there for the VFR? Do kits for the RC51 fit the 6th gen VFR?

Why? I have a hard enough time getting smooth throttle response as it is, why make it worse?

:+1: on why........... But, No I haven't heard of any..... I didn't like mine when I picked it up.... But I adjusted the slack out of the throttle, and all is well..... Hope someone can lead you to what you're looking for.....

do you mean like a 1/4 turn throttle like a track bike?
Is your bike a track bike? If not, I wouldn't bother, it would make it far too twitchy for the road.

I thought of the same thing, even with minimal slack it was still deficult to acheive full throttle easily, rasing the clips will aide though, if thats a consideration, solved my issue.

The stock throttle is already 1/4 turn. That term comes from much older bikes when converting to flatslide carbs. You could try a throttle tube from a RC30 or CBR1000RR. It's a small but noticeable difference, but the grip is a bit shorter.

Haven't seen one specifically for the VFR but I'd bet they're interchangeable, look at the 954/929, etc. Not sure the RC51/600RR throttle tubes will go into the larger Honda switchgear housing.

Also noticed Dan Kyle is offering graduated, snail shape throttle tubes. Slower response up to 1/2 throttle and then quicker to full opening, to help with smoother low rpm response. May look for something like that from them or another mfg.

As for the why, I guess it's just my style. It's not a track bike, I just find a shorter throw helps make shifting smoother at full throttle, and it makes in-town shifting a tiny flick of the wrist. I've done this before on other bikes and I really liked the feel. Just like to see how it feels on the new bike.

I'll grant you that the VFR is pretty damn snatchy at low revs. Definitely took some getting used to.

You might try a powercommander to smooth it out at lower rpm's to help this.

I wouldnt mind a tick slower ramp to 1/4 throttle and near stock to about 1/2 and then quicker to full on. That last bit of twist to full sometimes is a pain. I may be dreaming but I would like to experiement a bit.

I have a HRC quick turn throttle that came as a spare with my RC51. Not using it if you're interested in buying to try it out.

Good topic, I also like a shorter throw throttle. Even the progressive one may be better. Possibly I may have
become accustomed to these short throw jobs when I was racing Amateur MX and Enduro . And for those
of you that havent competed in these sports,you really use the throttle a bunch. Also I would like to change
to a shorter throw if its an easy switch, seems like I have looked at a few articles and there was alot
involved to make the change. tks eddie

All you need is to learn the the technique called RE GRIP. Watch a drag racer or mx racer. You have to reach forward so when you get to wide open throttle your hand is in it's normal position, elbow up not pointing down.


Just learn to re-grip and I wouldnt put any other throttle on a streetbike. They are meant for race bikes that are always WFO.
