I use an older version of
Signal Dynamics headlight modulator. I think it is exactly the same as the one they make now except mine will make my headlights flash when I beep the horn. (Even at night... which is illegal)
I have mine wired into the lower pair of bulbs. I am running FI*X*ER"S (actually my own variation) headlight mod. So my modulator will cause either the low or high filaments of the lower pair to pulse.
I am a huge fan of modulators... I can attest to the fact that they get attention. They are also great for causing traffic to part in front of you.... people must think I am a cop or something.
:+1:
I installed the SignalDynamics pn-1014 this weekend and can't believe I let these sit around for more than a year before I got around to using them.
The visability that headlight modulation gives you to traffic ahead of you is just unreal! Is it too much attention? The jury is out on that still. More riding, mental notations along with some video examples will follow.
On my normal Coastal S.F. to Monterey loop with stretches of Slab thrown in for meassure, the reaction to the modulation was stunning. People See you and are Aware that you are there.
I'm running oem lights, modulation on the low beams only (with the capability to turn the modulation off by switching the High's on and off again) I won't connect the horn feature unless I install a stebel type horn. If I need too.
Maintaining the normal 2-3 second distance buffer behind cars I noticed this, On two lane roads and slab, drivers either don't like the flashing in their mirror or they interpret the mod as "flash to pass" or they have a revelation "slower traffic keep right". Many moved over!!
Previously, I would just follow with the hope of common courtesy to strike the tunnel visioned gadget txting driver ahead. I'm not one to keep lane hopping unless it's really necessary.
On single PCH lanes more than just a few aware cool drivers moved to favor the far right side of the lane (some well over the fog line) in order for me to move along. I was just remarkable!
Like the product literature states, with more auto's daytime running lights becoming standard equipment, motorcyles are even less noticable. Glad to have this product up and running..
An unrelated side note: How anyone can ride a motorcycle "at speed" without a Full Faceshield is just beyond me. I took a direct insect hit in the middle of the mask that I'm sure would have caused some problems at the rate I was traveling..
