Good afternoon, all. As I sit at my desk, eagerly awaiting the arrival of my '07 VFR (it's on a truck on its way to my dealer... somewhere...) I'm reading VFRD and wondering about the under-seat area.

One of the topics that has caught my attention had to do with helmet storage. I understand there's a helmet hanger, but it seems that many are not fully happy with it. The hanger beneath the seat of my 599 works well for me (though I usually just take my helmet with me), and I wonder if it's similar on the VFR.

Related, I put together a long coated-cable arrangement I can connect to under-seat goods so as to be able to lock my jacket to the bike if I want to. (Nothing to it, really, and I'd be glad to share the info if anyone is interested.) Anyway, I'd like to get a good look at the under-seat area soon, so as to get a head start on similar preparations for my [eagerly-awaited] VFR.

Is there room under there to store anything else? Leatherman, cell phone, roll of quarters, etc?

Anyone got good photos handy?

In the words of Mr Bartles and Mr Jaymes, "Thank you for your support."

Under the rider the space is pretty restricted. Under the pillion area there's room on either side of the center support for some small stuff.

be careful if you use the under-seat helmet holder. I used mine twice and the helmet strap left swirl marks on my paint.

Thank you, SpiralGray, for the photo. Now I've got even more questions.

1. How much space is there between this and the underside of the seat? (Could I feed a quarter-inch diameter cable through it when the seat is in place?)
2. Similarly, what about here? (Is there any space there with the seat installed?)
3. This is the helmet hanger, right?
4. What's this? It's connected at both ends, right?

Thanks, too, for the warning, shaynej. :fing02:

There is a space that some people have mod'ed to put stuff, it's under what you see, just about where the rear brake fluid holder is. I think it's for pip's without abs.
Also, theres a flat space under the seat latch(not lock) you slide it in from either side of the ones mentioned with the rubber hold-downs.
Yes, you can put the things you mentioned in the areas you see.
As for using the helmet holder (hook), I guess that seems to vary. I use mine and haven't had any paint problem.(but haven't had any wind to speak of either.
I would like to know what your idea is on the cable install. I use one, but keep it in my tank bag.

Thanks, Monk.
Let me do a bit of hard-drive fishing -- I think I've got pics of the cable assembly. If not, then I'll go to the garage and take some.

A-ha! I knew they were out there. Here we go:

Storage: Leatherman, garage opener, hat.
Note the cable loop next to the hat -- that's [semi-]permanent. The rest of the cable is beneath the hat bill.

The cable, showing the loose end. The loose end loops over the helmet hanger, and then
I reinstall the seat.

Not a great pic, but the cable exits here -- there's a gap here when the seat is in place.
The cable is roughly 5' long; I can run it through my jacket sleeves (in one, out the other).

The cable, attached at one end and coiled for storage.

All told, there's less than $5 in material there. Cheap and cheesy, man....

(Clearly, the [br] bit doesn't work the way I thought it would... I've got more learning to do here.)

And to drift my own thread, Monk, I was looking at your gallery and found this pic:
Gallery > Member's Gallery > Old churches and gas stations > DSC00015.JPG
Where's that taken?

1. Yes.
2. Maybe. You can see a raised up lip on the cowl, you'd probably have to modify that to fit the cable through.
3. Yes. There is one on each side.
4. That's a mounting point for the seat.

Thanks, Ryan.
I think I can build myself another cable arrangement (as shown above) and attach the "fixed" end there. Nice!

Wow, that's neat. I like it.
Thank you for the link!
