And now the question of the day - what is it with the cans on new bikes these days? Some look like blunderbusses, yet others like rubbish bins and without a doubt, they all look like krappe. Yeah, there's emissions and noise, blah blah, easily handled with modern tech - gimme aesthetically pleasing design that doesn't make your pride and joy look like a shop class freakout...
I think every manufacturer is experimenting to find the "next big thing" in muffler design. I mean, the standard conventional exhaust design has been around for, well forever. And now it is finally coming under the microscope, like everything else for multiple reasons - reducing weight, mass centralization, noise limits, etc.
I like it, its progress. For years though everyone was concerned with the right length exhaust, power pulses and rarefraction wavelengths... So although I can see they are smaller and closer to the center of mass, I am not sure how these shorty exhausts and collector boxes do the same job with powerbands.
The only gripe I really have on the stock exhaust is: why there is one round outlet and the other is triangular?! With a grille!!
You want to know where all the extra weight on this bike comes from, it's the exhaust pipes! Out the front cylinders, bent around towards the right to clear the radiator probably, then wrapped back to the left of the motor around the oil pan then back to the right behind the motor to the muffler. What a complicated mess, must weight 30 pounds!
