Motor Cyclist 7th Gen Write Up

Got the Motor Cyclist today and it's got a write up on the 7th Gen. Pretty much all old news to us here on VFRD but, they do confirm a later ST1300 replacement as well as more talk of displacement on demand cylinder managment to make it a 600cc twin at cruising speed.

This was written before the official release at the Tokio show so I am still not 100% sure of any of the accuracy of this article.

MCN is supposed to be test riding the bike today at a Japanese track, assume there's other journalists riding too. Expect reports in the next few days.

It is really wide and that is not the fuel tank. that is the ram air from the front going into the airbox. they brought the air around the frame instead of through the headstok or through the frame rails as on other RR type bikes...


I think the fuel is kept under the seat...

Haven't they also gone back to a conventional radiator? Plus (also) the front cylinders are wider spaced than the rear ones. All this means it'd be very hard to make the front narrow.

Understand, it's the tank cover. I don't think they put the fuel under the seat based on the pics they've published. Maybe it was just the angle of the video...it just looked..strange.

Fuel does go in the gas tank, not under the seat.

The gas tank is narrow at back for gripping, and is wider up front.

I hope that right side hard case has a good heat shield, looks like its right in front of the pipe

Methinks the upper exhaust opening isn't for the actual exhaust to exit, I think it's possilby for cool air to be drawn in??...or cosmetic??....I believe the lower one is the "real exhaust exit". I don't think the guys designing the pipe would've had the exit so near the right side panier if it did have hot exhaust coming from it. They may be silly but they're not stupid....at least I hope they're not.... :blink: We'll soon find out I suspect..!

Honda have made a big deal about making the two rear cylinders very close to each other to allow the taper of the tank towards the seat. The aim is to not have the rider's knees splayed out and to also make it easier for even short people to put their feet down on the road easily when the bike stops. Mind you, at 267kg fully fuelled, it'd better be easy.

Just a couple frame grabs from the MCN video. It just looks odd to me how the tank flows in to the fairing, like you left a stick of butter sitting out melting in the sun..

Looks like the right case is cut out on the inside/bottom to allow exhaust to mostly flow through.
