The review I've been wainting for, as the Star seems to have writers with an open mind, and this guys is a big fan of the VFR800

Toronto Star Review

But he says only 200 are coming to Canada for 2010

WHAT'S WORST: Oddball switchgear, limited cruising range

First time I've seen anyone talk about the switch layout, check the picture, the horn and signal light switch have been flipped from every other bike I've ever seen. And that limited range thanks to a 18L fuel tank :angry:

BMW's are like that, aren't they??

I'm still seeing what looks like damping adjustment on the fork, what's up with that, is it there or not?

Thanks for the post-up, this is one of the better reviews done so far! Honest, fair, and detailed.

Thanks for the post-up, this is one of the better reviews done so far! Honest, fair, and detailed.


Cycle World and the other reviews said the suspension has preload and rebound adjustment front and rear.

The fact that they're only bringing 200 makes me want one even more for the exclusivity factor... but it worries me that they will also price it exclusively.

Be careful Honda Canada... if it's more than a $1500 difference from the States I'll be heading down to Montana to pick one up.

I wonder if the pre-production models have an EU switchgear? Perhaps when the North American production models arrive, they'll be different. I mean, I notice this picture appears to have a flash-to-pass switch, or "light horn" as the English speaking German riders say. That's not something I have ever seen on US model bikes. We usually get a switchgear without this; often, with a clumsy bump where it was filled in with as little trouble taken as possible. (Why do they manufacture these different switchgears for us? It seems like a strange waste of money, in an industry that usually prefers to standardize for cost savings. Do US DOT regs prohibit the flash-to-pass?)

US - Triumph Sprint ST's have the "electronic finger" as the salesguy described it to me. :blink:

It's right there in the 'amendments' to your Constipation or whatnot right next to where it says you can bare both your arms or summat (so long as you aren't in a foreign Country that don't do that. :( ) :warranty: :unclesam:

I have a flash-to-pass switch on my 6th gen here in Oz

All Ozzie-sold bikes appear to have a headlamp flasher switch AFAIK. I believe it may be a requirement of the ADR's (Australian Design Rules). I mean my 1994 Testarossa has one. Can't imagine a bike (or a car) without one, to be honest.

Good review, btw, encouraging. I hope that Honda stick with the "standard" switchgear when the bike is released here.

You beat me to it. A co-worker of mine has the previous gen ST and he has it. I just flip the high beam switch on then off real quick. It worked coming home the other night on the highway after dark.

Not only is it likely to not work, it may cause someone to get angry and drive recklessly, which is why I don' recommend it. We all know who wins in car vs. bike.

I'd like to think we could be more civil, but I'm a little amazed at some of the things drivers get angry at. Last week someone was seriously tailgating me (on a three lane road), so I flashed my brakes to get him to back off, so he sped around and flipped ME off...

Some people see flashing brights as a sign of aggression and have something to prove...

Ah-hem :biggrin: I just figured it wasn't a problem for anybody else as no one commented till now.The horn position makes a lot more sense in the middle of the housing and being bigger than anything else there.The only problem I have is going back and forth between bikes that have it one way or the other.

Very logical answer to a question that was asked time and time again on this board: how is Honda going to sell a 20,000$CND motorbike in today's troubled market? Simple, make fewer of them.

Hoping that this new bike won't be quite a bit more pricey than the outgoing model is Alice in Wonderland fantasy!

My 1996 F 250 (Ford P/U) Canada, US made has the FTP so why not bikes.

Your browser should be caching the picture the first time it pulls it up in the thread and then simply redisplaying it from your hard drive cache for any subsequent instances. The original pic is only about 200K, even out at the end of the line in NZ it should load fairly quick. But it's pulling that pic from the feelv4 site, which I believe is in the EU somewhere. Then you have the other 2 pics probably on a US server.

But the slowdown may be pulling up all the signature attachments, like the "fuelly" web site stats. Those need to be pulled in for each individual, plus any pics people have in their sig's that reside on other servers, such as the VFR pics in RC36's and VF1000R's sigs (just for example), the "states visited" maps, etc. Any one of those items could be holding up the loading of the whole web page. Fuelly seems to be the big culprit most of the time.
