In Oz

Well chatting to the bike shop this afternoon. They expect a March release here as well and gueesed at a sticker price of $25,000 (not sure if that included on road cost). For comparison, the 'Blade costs around $20,000 on road (I think on road is about $1500ish) a VFR around $16000.

There is a bike show at the end of the month here in Sydney and it would be nice to see it there, but I wouldn't be surprised if it isn't.

I'm sure I read that Honda MPE did not expect to have one at the Sydney show, but it's a big market here for both Birds and VFRs so I suspect that they might make a last minute effort to get one here.

The price is pretty steep... I think I want one down the track, but even $20k for a used one will be pushing it for me.

Honda would not be able to flog the stock bike without DCT for $25K Australian. Honda cannot suddenly walk up and say "hey, we're BMW-priced too!". Now *with* DCT, that's another matter entirely.

Since I want the panniers and top box straight up, it's probably smarter to put money into that than the DCT...

No way that it will be in Sydney for the show. Hell, Honda will be making a big fuss about it being at the show NEXT year. The problem with the Sydney show is that it's at the wrong time of the year. I mean, why would you stage a show at the same time as the next year's models are being released in Europe, knowing that you won't be able to display them until a YEAR after they have been released?

I'd be surprised if they don't try to bring it in under the psychological $A20k mark, especially given the current economic conditions.

Or they could just say, "To hell with all of you, if you want it be prepared to pay BMW prices."

There seems to be a few pre-production V12s around; there were 8 in one pic at a Euro launch. Surely they can spare one to ship over here in the next fortnight...

Frogfoot, do you know if your bike shop is saying $25k as an educated guess, or speculation based on the guesses all over the net?

Even if it's not here this montht I reckon Frasers would like nothing better than to get a V12 into its flagship Homebush shop for a week or two - half of Sydney's riders would be tramping through the door for a stickybeak.

Some guys I know have seen it up close and even threw a leg over it. According to Honda NL it will be on the showroom floor by the end of januari.

Btw, for those who are thinking about a fenderectomy. Here is a pic they shot of the bike showing the rear fender with the sidecase mountings. The sidecases attach to the two slots and at the bottom it rests against the rubber thingy on the rear footpeg.

I'm not negative, just realistic. Of course it would be great to see one close-up, and well before the official release date, but, if previous form is anything to go by, especially with Honda MPE, it won't happen.

As far as sales people giving you accurate information, I wouldn't place too much faith in it. I went to my local Honda dealer (a pretty well-respected city shop) and asked for details and they couldn't tell me anything. One of the sales staff didn't even know the bike had been released yet, for goodness sake.

You can be sure of one thing, the moment any sort of substantiated rumour surfaces that there IS one in the country, I'll be there with bells on to take a squizz.

And, on that subject, the V4 site that was releasing all the "teasers". It said that if you registered with them you would be among the first to be notified of release/test rides, etc. Does this apply here or only in Britain from whence the site emanates?

I think that price is pure speculation. I was in a different shop today and they said around $20,000, but also said they haven't actually been told anything by Honda yet. So all the timings and pricing have to be total speculation. He took my details and says he ring me as soon as they hear. Shrug, we'll see.

Yes I would love to see one in the flesh and am keen to test ride one, but to actually buy one, I'm really not sure. I like the look mostly, my 04 has just had it's 96,000 service without a single replacement or note to keep an eye, next service etc. So the VFR12 will have to really endear itself on a test ride.

Thanks for clearing that up, I suspected that was the case.

Like you, I'm more than happy with my 1994, and I doubt I'd be able to convince the Minister for War and Finance to stump up the necessary to buy one, but I would like to see one in the flesh and I'd certainly like to ride one, just to be able to make up my own mind instead of having road testers make up my mind for me.

I think our fellow countryman RC36 has actually calmed down quite a bit since his first posts on or around the 9th of October regarding the VFR1200. I certainly know that the stuff he was writing was pushing my buttons.

Actually I think somebody else from Oz got so riled up he called RC36 a tnuC last week. Now that's pissed off.

HI guys. Ive had my new (08) Silver VFR for 3 days anw and am loving it. On the new 1200 though, two different dealers said to me that Honda is anticipating a 24-25k (AUS$) ticket on it and one of the guys was saying people ( in our market ) just wont pay that for that motorcycle. Having said that while I was sitting astride a DN01 ( while waiting on the paperwork for my new one ) he was explaining to me that DN01s came out for 18k and within 12/18 months the going price is 10-11k and they are now starting to move a few more of them. So unless your a wealthy early adopter it seems a bit of a wait is in order for the price to get to what the market will pay.

In an asside, the latest Two Wheels magazine in Aus has a good look at the 1200 as well as a new CB1100 retro which looks pretty sweet. Not going to the US though, sorry guys.

Well 1200 not at Sydney motor show, Best they had was a promo vid on the screen. Honda guy said Feb next year before it lands in OZ.
and speaking of the motor show, Yamaha didn,t allow anyone to sit on any of their bikes???

OK, latest update from bike shop guy tells me is due March/April (sounded fairly firm on this) and expected price of $25,000 (but this wasn't yet official).
