I went to the CW International Motorcycle Show and wasn't impressed. For starters, Aprilia, KTM, and Triumph were all AWOL. So was BMW and Victory. The last time I went I recall seeing Casey Stoner's Duc and Kawasaki's and Suzuki's MotoGP bikes, too. This year only Rossi's was on display. There was no modeling show like last time and the stunt show was lame.

So BMW, Aprilia, KTM, Triumph, and Victory are all not participating? I don't ever recall seeing Triumph at the Cleveland Show, but why aren't the rest there? Don't have a floorplan for cleveland up yet, but I hope the usual group is there.

Must say though. There really isn't much to see at the bike shows any more. Last two years have been rather dull. Three bikes of interest this year though (RSV4, S1000RR, VFR1200).

Oh, and that speed triple is SICK! Really nice work done to that thing. Hope it's up at the cleveland show.

I skipped the show the last 2 years but was planning to attend this year, specifically to see the 3 bikes Yoshi mentioned above.

Unfortunately I can't make the Cleveland show, as my wife and I are going to Las Vegas that weekend. I may hit the Detroit show in Jan. instead, but if the other 2 bikes are no-shows, I'll likely skip the CW show entirely. :(

Good luck. Hopefully more brands will be at your show... Two of the bikes you mention (ones I'm interested in as well) weren't even in Dallas.

Aside from a total change-of-heart on the VFR1200, what I came away from the show with was a bad case of the Bologna Blues... Caused by Ducati-on-the-brain.

Case in point, the Streetfighter. Fast. Easy on the eyes (IMHO). Naked. And now, after sitting on it, I also know it's downright comfortable. The low headlight and gauge package make it feel like you're in the first car on a roller coaster. I'm sure it's brilliant fun. And of course, you can buy the $3200 Termi exhaust and $4400 Marchesini wheels for it. I'm in WUB! :wub:

Well I was pretty sure I liked the VFR1200 before but now I'm sure of it!

I always find it diffucult to get a real visual idea of a bike based on press photos because they are so doctored. Your photos reveal the bike like I would see it with my own eyes. Thank you. :fing02:

For San Mateo, much the same, but we do get BMW because the Nor Cal BMW dealers do the BMW display.

I really wanted to see the new Aprilias; Victory missing, no loss there :goofy:

You'll have to motor up I-85 to Greenville. My only real interest in these shows is the opportunity to do some demo rides.

Here in the frozen north they never have demo rides. But the winter is long and there are few good days to ride, which makes the shows more appealing - they're a chance to do something moto-related, besides working in the garage and hanging out on the internet debating whether shaft drive bikes can wheelie. :wheel:

At last year's show here you could have also ridden most any of KTM's street line including the Superduke and RC8 as well as a Ducati Hypermotard. Although you may not prefer a Kawasaki, the available slots to demo ride any of several Concours 14 were the first to fill up.

Aprilia has been at the Cleveland show the last couple of years. Think I saw them at the NY show as well.

I went to the International Motorcycle Show last night in San Mateo, California.

The "bike" that really excited me was the BUB streamliner that went 367mph on the salt flats.

Saw the new VFR1200F, rotating on a platform so I couldn't sit on it. It looks a little smaller in person.

A $16,000 MSRP tag was hanging on it, and remember, that's for the base model.

If you want the new dual-clutch tranny that will "probably" cost an additional $1,000 - $1,500.

Now add in the hard bags and trunk that might cost $1,000, PLUS tax, license fee, shipping, setup and doc fee.

(Drum Roll) . . . and now you are in the $20,000 range. Oh, and add insurance.

The muffler is uglier in person. Honda needs to fire the designer, who must have been off his meds.

The gas tank (?) looks like a camel's humpback. Wonder what kind of tank bag will fit on this Mt. Everest.

I'm glad Honda decided to not put black wheels on it.

I'm sure it will be a blast to ride, but I don't think I would be looking at my reflection in store windows with any pride.

The bike has just too many sight lines going in a dozen different directions.

Hell, in my opinion, my old '86 VFR750F, and my '90 RC30 had paint schemes that were twice as nice looking as the new VFR1200F.

I like the technology (dual-clutch, etc.) but I'm having a real hard time accepting the cartoon aesthetics.

Personally I like softer rounded lines (female?) instead of the sharp angular lines that are on this bike and other sport bikes.

Sorry Honda, in my opinion you missed a great opportunity to match up modern technology with a good looking platform.

My wallet will stay shut on this one. I will be keeping my sweet little cherry '98 for quite awhile longer ~
