Just ordered a VFR

I took the plunge. Called my local dealer and ordered a new VFR. As much as I like my CBF1000 this bike has to be in the garage. I last owned a VFR in 1993 when I bought a new pearl white 750. Since I have had a number of bikes, ZX-11, ST1300, VTR1000, Ducati ST4 and even a HD Road King. Now I just have to wait until it comes in and I can take off on our annual West Virginia, Tennessee run.

Honda Canada have said that they will only import 2 per dealer. Some dealers will get 1 or 2, many will get none.

Can't wait to read reviews written by real world riders who are ordering the VFRs. ;)

Though the initial reviews have been mostly positive, I don't think I've read a published write-up yet by someone who sees a VFR for the terrific all-arounder it is. Moto journalists may have good intentions, but IMO they're too used to/spoiled by the supersports and touring bikes they normally ride and review to give fair/objective reviews of all-around streetbikes like the VFR. There are trade-offs on bikes like this, and that's perfectly acceptable to most of us. I think that's what most journos fail to see.

Ok, I'll ask, how much?

To try and answer a few questions.

They are in limited supply. My Dealer will be getting 3 (apparently because he is a Powerhouse dealer) I have a reserved spot for #1 probably because I keep buying bikes from him. The other 2 are sold as well. He does not know if he will get any others before July or August but who knows part of it could be hype.

I ordered the standard 6 speed FA over the auto shift DCT for 3 reasons. The DCT won't be available until much later in the year, it only comes in a grayish silver as opposed to the red and it will likely carry about a $2000-$2500 premium over an already stiff $18,300. Of course I will have to add the bags to that and the centre stand....argghhhh.

I must admit when I first saw the pictures i thought sort of ughhh but it is one of those stylying exercises that challenges you to look at it differently and outside of convential norms. So after watching a lot of video and photos from every angle I think it is gorgeous especially from the rear and 3/4 view. The dead on frontal look is still a bit hohum to me but no mind.

Correct, I would give up the slipper clutch to have the center stand but that's just the type of rider I am.

Also yes on the luggage, but I believe the bags are only 29 liters instead of the 35 liters for the 6-6.5 gen plus a smaller top case.

I've had a deposit down since October for the first one my dealer gets.

I dropped by the dealer for something else this week and my salesman still has no confirmation when it shall be arriving...

Also, zero news on when/what/if the accessories shall be available.

2 things about the bags:

They clip on to the fender/bracket thing on the back (it's metal), so no fenderectomies and at the NYC show the factory bags looked very, very small.

My Dealer is expecting delivery in mid-April to early May. There is no idea of when the accessories will be ready. The bags are 29 litres and only one of them will hold a full-face helmet. I do like the fact that there is no mounting frame for them. That when I have them off the bike looks just as it does in the photos. Even with shaft drive I like a centre stand. The bike is more stable, easier to clean etc.

I am in Ottawa and there are a couple of Honda dealers but I don't know what the situation is with the other dealer as far as number of bikes goes. I deal with Powersports. I do notice that week by week the Honda Canada website gets a bit more info. The DCT model is now shown but without a price yet.

The fit and finish on this bike is supposed to be amazing even by Honda standards. Can't wait

The paint is at least a mile deep with what looks like crushed glass sprinkled in. I have read that Honda just opened a new paint factory and this is the first example of the new finishes.

There has been some unrest from the masses about the new VFR but we do have to remember that this bike will be a showcase of what Honda can do. It can be argued that Honda makes the best mass-produced engines in the world. Just see any VFR, S2000, NSX or my former '91 Integra (that I beat the living piss out of) for proof. I'm optimistic (at least this morning) that the VFR1200 may be one of the finest production motorcycles ever made.

Hello all

Newbie here from the UK; I found this site hunting down reviews for the VFR1200.

I have a red one on order and collect on 12 February, my dealer has confirmed this. He was at Honda UK yesterday and was amazed by the bikes. He also believes that the initial UK allocation of 600 units are all spoken for.

I have added a centre stand to the options and am considering the alarm system. Any accessories fitted before the bike is supplied are covered by the three year warranty, but those fitted afterwards have a standard 12 months.

So, two weeks to go! I'm getting a tad nervous now, given the lukewarm reception thus far.

Welcome and please stick around! This is great site and even though we don't know you there will be a few thousand people waiting for your opinions on your new bike. Looking at the list of bikes that you own you'll actually be able to compare it to bikes of different sizes and weights.

Thank you, yes of course I will. My VFR800 is still my workhorse and the Blackbird will probably be replaced assuming the new VFR is up to the job. I'm paying around $18,500 (�11,596 in Sterling) so a bit more than the US list price I think. It's a gamble I know, but someone's got to take it!

Well I was a doubter but after looking at the new Red Rider magazine today, the new VFR looked very nice. I also thought the price was too high until I realized the Yamaha FJR and Kaw Concourse is in the same ballpark - so I guess it's the price one has to pay these days for a nice sport touring ride. I'm sure it'll be a winner for you.

I am envious that you get yours in mid-February but in reality it will be -10 degrees here still at that time so mid-April will be about right to go start riding.

The centre stand is �175 (!) including taxes, fitted, and the alarm system is �350 fitted. My dealer has the full price list for the accessories so if you've anything in mind let me know and I'll find out. You can them maybe work out what it might cost you in Canada. -10? Brrrrrr!! I'm expecting just a bit of rain.

I was surprised to see the MRSP of $19,000 CDN. Add bags and a few extras and you're in the same price range as an ST1300.

To the other Canadians who have ordered a VFR12FA,

Please post when you have received notice from your dealer of the delivery date (anticipated or confirmed) as well as availability (when & what) and pricing of accessories (bags, centerstand, etc.).

I shall do the same. I may be able to pry some information out of Honda soon, as the Qu�bec and Montr�al bike shows are both in February.

It's also in the displacement range of an ST1300...so that makes sense!

I will let all know when my dealer here in Ottawa gives me a delivery date. Although with bags and centre stand it will cost about the same as the ST1300 the ST is much closer to being a Gold Wing. I have owned an ST (for about 9 months before trading it on a Ducati ST4) they carry a lot more weight and have less power than the VFR. It was a very competent bike but yawn boring.

It looks like we will be waiting about 2 more months or bit more for delivery here.....arghhh

Nope, just 2 more months from today or thereabouts. Still a long long time in motorcycle land

I would have joun you and order one after seeing one for real last weekend in a MCshow locally, just teh money part missing, so my old ride have to do (and will)

By the way, the auto shift will go to production midyear, so not in shops untill early fall from what I heard (only pre prodution ones made yet)

If you went strictly by the exchange rate the VFR would cost 24 grand in the USA. There's a little more to it than that. ;)
