DIY hazard flashers?

Hey gang-

I'm trying to do some electro-work on my 85 VF500F Interceptor and need some advice. I'm trying to wire up a hazard light switch. I've heard of this before, but can't seem to find the link.

What I want to do is something super simple. No relay, no flasher diodes. Just a simple switch with 2 prongs and a couple feet of wire. One wire goes from one tab/prong on the switch to one front signal, one wire goes from the other tab/prong on the switch to the other front signal. When you need hazard lights/all four, you simply flip your signal switch to EITHER left or right, then flip the switch, and BINGO, all four flash.

Except I can't remember which wire coming from the signals I hook to the switch...the positive one (the one that flashes when the turn signal is on?) or a negative/ground?

Any of you guys done this and can offer some insight?

I think it was Darth Bling that did this mod on his '04 VTEC. 05 & up came with it stock.

Yeah, all my kawi's have had them stock, even going back 20+ years. The Honda's, even much newer ones...not so much. Which is why I'm looking to do them now...

Positive lead of one bulb to switch to positive lead of other bulb [LPos-SW-RPos]. Wouldn't want to go to negative because the switch isn't a load and when flipped on would create a direct short.

I had never heard of this mod, brilliant! Only concern would be you would be loading up a wire that was meant to illuminate two bulbs with now supporting four.... I personally wouldn't worry about that.

By "positive lead" you mean the one that causes the lights to flash when the turn signal switch is on, right?

So, tap into the positive wire on the LF signal, run that wire to a tab on the switch, and tap into the positive wire on the RF signal, and run that wire to the switch...that sound right? Just trying to clear up confusion in my own mind...

Yeah, you've got it right.... You should be able to do it right at the turn signal pod - if you wish.

You're just wanting to jump the flashing signal from one circuit to the other via the switch you are going to install.

Thanks for the tips. It is a super-simple way to go about it without messing with relays etc. I figured, the signals work fine...why not use them instead of re-inventing the electro wheel for folks like me who are often baffled by this sort of thing.

I'm planning on using those blue plastic wire taps, so I'll probably do it behind the headlight somewhere so I can hide 'em.
