If anyone has an infrared thermometer, can you measure how hot your front exhaust pipes get, say in the first 3-5 minutes of idling?

Thanks

i just taste the pipe.. if my tongue sizzles i know its hot. :fing02:

it gets hot enough to vaporize water instantly.. whats your concern here??? are you trying to see if the bike is firing on all 4? take a spray bottle of water.. run the bike.. squirt the pipes.. should go bbbbbZZZZZHHHHHHITTTTT! and if it doesnt .. you know something is not quite right at that cylinder..sometimes the idel jet is cloged one only.. sometimes the wired are bad or disconnected...

I'll make a vid tomorrow.  Just need to know what software to use to speed the vid up.    Show me on a pic of where you want temp reading.

I'll get out my IR therm tomorrow.  How far away from the heads?

With an IR thermometor, from 1" away from the head to the first bend at least....I get 650+ plus within minutes.  I think this is bad, but I want to verify with a known good motor.  I seem to recall a previous bike running in the 350 range.

Going out to garage right now....

back in ten....

Started motorcycle, never touched throttle, all readings at the minute.  I'm still fully assembled, so measurments were taken about 3" out from the head right before the bend downward.  All temps in F.  My motorcycle is stock and seems to run normally.

Thanks!  I wish my IR read that high.  This seemed so very high I was super nervous, but you have quelled my concerns!

I think mine only reads up to 1000.  There at one point I thought I was going to have to figure out how to smuggle the FLIR camera out from work.
