The Heat shield on the bike was rusted - so instead of painting , i have put carbon sheet on one side.

the Carbon sheets have a matt finish. Had a tough time getting on the around the bends. tried using the Hair dryer but did'nt work that well. anyways...

frankly that was my first thought, this was easier and cheaper :)
also what my initial concern was the heat - if it can take that much of heat.

Thurn Motorsport used to make one of those in pure carbon fiber and I've been looking for one for a year now; anyone have any leads? That doesn't look bad though! Much better than the beat up stock look!

First off that looks REALLY good! I was wondering what you used, though....I have seen carbon fiber cloth, and also 3M makes a carbon fiber like vinyl sheet (not actually carbon fiber) that has the texture of the real stuff.
As for the heat question, real carbon fiber will hold up the the heat just fine....and it stays cool to the touch. My Leo pipes have a real carbon fiber heat shield. The edges are razor sharp, though!!
Neat concept and idea. Seems to have worked OK here. I agree that a matte finish would be better.
Here is another option:
Duplicolor High Heat paint in matte black has served me well. Strip the old paint and paint with the Duplicolor. Put in an oven and cook at 400-degrees for a few hours (the more the better). A toaster oven in the garage is best for small parts, as it will stink up your kitchen as it cures and your wife will bitch up a storm if you use your kitchen oven.
This baking results in a VERY tough coating that will not rust or scratch and will be resistant to oil and other chemicals -even a little bit of brake fluid if you don't leave it on there too long after you bleed your brakes. Definitely as tough as the OEM paint.
I've used this method for painting guns and gun parts and it is very durable and resists gun-cleaning chemicals. It's easy and doesn't take much skill and the results are as good as OEM paint for high-heat areas.
I like it! I just bought some 3M Di-Noc carbon fiber vinyl overlay. I plan on doing some of the small matte black plastic pieces under the seat and maybe the dash. I originally was going to make a vacuum forming box, make some molds and then make my own parts using the real stuff, but the project seem like too much time, money, and mess vs. results when compared to the vinyl overlay. I might change my mind depending on how well the vinyl looks, but my garage is already cluttered with machinery i don't use that often and I'm not looking to start a carbon fiber parts company.
I purchased these carbon look alike vinyl sheets. These are good quality ones. Guess i will have to rip these out and put new ones (without the clear coat)
Also planning to put these on the dashboard. Will be in Topeka for couple of weeks - Will stencil them once i am back. I think i am going "carbon addict"

What heat ? bike or the weather here ....it should hold both (i think)...

I guess theoretically yes, in reality unless you ride in shorts and flip flops no. I really dont notice any extra heat. Look at Toro's bike no shield at all.
-- I really dont know if its bleeding heat or not. If it is, great. My thoughts have been around getting as much heat possible away from my expensive Penske shock. I have thermal wrapped the headers too. Just felt the headers are too close to the shock. Every tweak can be a tradeoff, I was willing to risk taking more heat on my boots vs getting more air over the shock. I didnt mind that esthetically it would look better too.
redo of the shield, but with a matt finish. I think it definitely looks better than the gloss. Since doing it the second time - was able to get a much better finish on it. I still clear coated the back of the shield so the sheets don't come of
