Hey guys, I am a brand-new member, and posted into the introduction section, but wanted to stay organized, so here I am!
I am looking at an 07 (6gen i believe?) that has front end damage. The frame was described to be fine, and the rest of the bike is in good shape.
I looked right away at what a stock front end would cost, but i cant find a single fork! My next question was whether or not you could put in a different front end (from the stem forward) onto the VFR with minimal fab work. I know it wont be a plug and play situation most likely (if thats possible I would love that) but i was wondering if there was an easy set of forks that could be used. Also, year/model/make would help as I dont know much about bikes other than the 500 Ninja! haha Last, is there anything i need to steer clear of, things to watch for, etc. Oh, and if its a complete front end with bars and the whole shabang, would it matter having a different set of brakes up front and whatnot? How easy would it be to install the fairing stay for a VFR on the new forks?

I have done a little searching already for the front end options (ive seen zx10's and R1's) but all i have seen is basically just what everyone decided to go with, not necessarily the easiest route.
IIR, the bike in question is in good shape from the steering stem back, ONLY. so I assume i would just pull the stem and bearings and stick in the new front end with the stem on it. Ive already seen a wole bunch of cbr's and whatnot with complete front ends (forks, clamps, stem, brakes, bars, switches, etc.) for cheap...like $400 cheap!
If its possible to build a viffer for around 2-3 grand, id be on it in a heartbeat.

I'm about 800 miles from you, but I have a good running 1996 VFR that could easily be somewhat modified and become yours within that price range. :fing02:

The easiest is probably an RC51 front end as it will match the stock lengths of your VFR's original forks the best. All of the front end swaps use the same triple clamps, either a 2000-2001 RC51 set or a CBR929/954 set, or some combination. I have used both the CBR/RC51 combination and the straight CBR setup on my bike. There are some aftermarket options for the top triple clamp as well.
Either RC51 front wheel will match your VFR's five-spoke rear wheel, although the 2002+ SP-2 wheel is considerably lighter than the 2000-2001 SP-1 wheel, and easier to find these days. RC51 front brake rotors from any model year will work.
Fenders from either the RC51, CBR929 or 954 will work.
Calipers and front brake master cylinders from RC51, CBR929/954 or CBR600F4/F4i. The 600F4/F4i are a visual match for your VFR's clutch master cylinder so will look stock.
I was originally going to use an R1 front end, but then found a set of Ohlins forks from an RC51 that I couldn't pass up, and that was that.
