First mod to the VFR1200F

Well after looking at the CBR message boards I decided to try it out can you guess

Do you mean you modified your hand - 'fist mod', or that you did your 'first' mod to your bike? ;)
Does it sound better?

The servo is now open all the time?

Uhhmmm. wouldn't that negatively affect your torque figures on lower RPMs??

Nope the servo is the same just removed the cable from the servo so it is completely reverseable

Not sure if anything could hurt this things low end

Here is a vid sorry for camera distortion. All I had to do was disconnect the cable from the servo and now it is open all the time

You are a braver man than me, that is for sure. If I had a bike like that, I would be too scared to do anything like that fearing that I would mess something up. Heck, I'd even be too scared to change my own oil.

But to each his own...at least when it comes to mods.

So what did the CBR message board say about the effects of that mod?

I'm not sure why anyone would do this. Do you know what this valve does? What are you trying to achieve by disabling it?

Well, I'll bet ya that an aftermarket can will do away with that flapper too.
I don't see why it would hurt anything by no being connected.

The flapper is designed to meet the new noise standards where noise is measured at 50% rpm on the bike.

Well if I want to change it all I have to do is reattach the cable and all the valve does is allow the bike to pass noise requirements.

If this is true, then the mod is a good one.
but if I understand anything about air flow, it's also creating back pressure at lower RPMs, thus improving bottom end torque.
It then opens up at higher RPMs to let more air through the pump and get better top end HP.
I could be wrong though.

Would be interesting to see the before/after dino curves.

So the mod is intended to allow the exhaust to be louder then. Are you happy with the sound? I hear a lot of blat blat blat on decel. I still think you may have changed the power quality but like you said it may not be noticable with all the new power in that beast. Congrats on the great new VFR. What do you have in mind for the next REAL modification? :lurk:

To be honest I am only happy with the sound under load so I will probably put it back. I wanted to try it for an experiment and the 7 minutes it took to finish was worth it. For real mods little more than new bars MAYBE a new can but I am not a fan of the only one currently out there. I just wanted to hear what it sounded like sense the flapper will ot open while at idle only moving.

Hey, I drilled holed in the bottom of my stock canister on my 98 vfr before I got a slip on. I think it's wise to wait for all the s/o manufacturers to come out with the product then choose the best. Smart money.

Yes, there's a thread on here of the sound of a VFR1200 with what I believe to be a Leo Vince can. I'm not sure, didn't come up immediately on a search, but if you poke around I'm sure you can find it.

I reckon its there so that the owner can fiddle around and disconnect it. As others have said, its there to meet the stationary noise tests, probably nothing more...

Sebring and Ixil are also supplying end cans.

I'd install this mod to the exhaust if I had a gen7. It would make the exhaust look one hell of a lot better.

Heck, one could use it on the whole bike and it would be a tremendous improvement :bliss:

Someone here photoshopped a CBR1000RR Taylormade exhaust onto the new VFR, it looked pretty good! Then someone else sent an email off to Taylormade asking them to consider making one just like it, and they said they might.

I like the looks of the Taylormade stuff on bikes I've seen.

In the video, the open flapper makes it sound like a slow, wet one at idle. ;p

I know videos don't sound exactly like it does in person, but it sounds like a weed eater with the string popping the guard. I'm not a fan of the sound. But also, i won't knock him for trying something out. Someone has to get mods figured out for the budget minded people. :fing02:

It was worth a try and answers the question on what it would sound like. Just sounds like crap.

Taylormade did get back to me when I enquired, they liked the photoshop and implied that they would give it serious thought. To the lucking few that now have a VFR1200, I'd give Taylormade a shout.
