Are these stock 5th gen bars?

So I met up with LilYellowRocket today, and we noticed a couple of slightly odd things about my VFR. First of all, it looks like my triple clamp has been lowered (presumably so the bike turns in a little faster), as you will see in this photo. Also, he mentioned that it looks like my handlebars are actually not stock. They look to be well-designed and well-built items, but I couldn't find any markings of any kind of them to suggest a manufacturer.

They seem to be very well-built, so much so that they look over-engineered to the point where they are OEM items. So, I thought I'd ask the experts. Failing that -- what do you guys think? :cheerleader:

WOW, unless your 4 foot tall those forks are drasticlly high in the triple trees!!!!!

Not good at all unless the rear was lowered a similar amount! :unsure: But unless your pretty short I would get the bike raised back up to stock height!

There at least twice what is reccomended which is around 39mm, whereas to quicken steering you would raise them 5-10mm. Yours look to be 30-50mm more! :blink:
Basically stock position would be like losening the triple clamps as sliding the forks down until the bottom of the clip-ons hit the top of the trees.
PS those are stock VFR bars! There are two different stock clip-ons for the 5th gen, don't know why? :biggrin:

yeah....that's been lowered. i just rode a lowered version today, and it sucks. gotta raise that thing up!

Well then, you need to do some work to that bike because it was either lowered for a Inseem Limited rider or the clamp bolts are loose and the forks are sliding up! :unsure:

If lowered the most common way to lower the rear is to Flip the Triangle plates at the bottom of the rear shock, this drops the rear about an 1" or 1 1/2", then the forks are rasied in the clamps to match.
Look at the plates at the bottom of the shock with the bike on the center stand, there's directional arrors that should point to the rear if I remember correctly, for the lowing mod they point up. Sometimes they install a modified DogBone with is the link between the frame and the plates.
If they just flipped the plated, just remove the 3 bolts (bike on stand and rear wheel supported) that hold the plates together and reinstall them in the proper position, then looses the upper and lower triple clamp bolts and slind the forks Back Down in the triples at least until the clip-ons hit the top of the tree's. Again the stock fork height is 39mm(this is a measurement from the top of the upper triple clam to the top of the fork tube). For quicker steering start with them at 44mm.

Thanks BR! That's exactly what I need to do to mine as well (after I find a set of OEM clip-ons).

Yeah, I noticed that. The first couple of VFR800s I rode (both earlier models), the bars seemed angled more (less flat) than mine.

If you want the front end back stock, you just need to slide the handle bars down till they touch the top of the triple clamp. Then slide the fork tubes down until the "groove" at the top of the tube is right above the top of the handle bar. There should be some metal rings in those grooves. They are real easy to take off/put back on. If you're missing them (I'm missing one), then just do you're best to align the forks with a measurement or something else to stick in the grooves. The metal rings keep the tubes from sliding through the handle bars.



Yes. Those are stock bars. The only aftermarket ones I've seen look like two tubes welded together to form a partial "T" and then welded to a clamp on. Meaning, you could tell they aren't "molded" like the stock ones are.
