I do, have had it for a week now - it's everything they say it is. I ride with earplugs but can still hear music without it being distorted.

The few calls I've had on the bike - no one knew I was on 2 wheels so the noise cancellation is good

Most importantly it will pair with a Garmin Nuvi GPS not just the Zumo

I have a quiet Scorpion EXO-900 modular and a noisy AGV miglia modular that I use in the summer and the Sena unit works well in both. I have tried the RF-1100 at a dealership and though it's a snug secure fit for my head I'm not too sure how noisy the new RF is once you're on the bike.

Nearly three weeks now and it's working flawlessly with the Blackberry both as a headset as well as the sound quality on MP3's is good. Dont expect any Bass though

After using this system for a season I can say that the in-helmet speakers just don't have enough volume for me unless I'm riding my ST1300 that of course keeps most of the wind off me compared to the VFR. I have done like zRoyz and gone to earbuds exclusively when riding my VFR...got the S-plug ones for about $150. MUCH better sound with good noise reduction...not quite as good noise reduction as with straight foam earplugs, but close if you get the earbuds inserted properly (deep). Lubricating the silicone earplugs is a must to getting inserted properly...sounds gross, but I just use a lick of the tongue most of the time. For helmet to helmet communication I have found the only way that is really tolerable is set the VOX function off (I don't even think I know how to turn it on) and have at least rider or pillion listening to another device like an iPod or music on your GPS. Then when you want to talk, you just tap the big Jog button and it connects to your partner...done talking, just tap the jog button again and go back to music. I have found that if neither is listening to a device then the comm line stays open and you just get annoying wind noise constantly. I guess the way to avoid this is to enable the VOX (on by speaking) function. The problem with VOX is that the first word or two you speak is not transmitted.

I bought a dual pack about 6 months ago from Rocket Moto and cannot recommend them enough. I use it with Westone UM1 in-ear speakers so volume is no issue, you can make and take calls at very illegal (European) speeds and it's just a brilliant piece of kit. BT it to my ipod for flawless stereo music, phone pairs easily, sta nav too though the delay on connecting BT means you miss the first word or 2. My fiance has the other set for pillion comms and it's really cool walking into the gas station to pay for fuel and still talking with her. I lent her set to a m8 on his bike and we got around 300metre range from it before it dropped the signal. You can only pair 3 other devices though so it doesn't replace a radio. They now sell a BT PTT for attaching to radios.

I find the girlfriend having "at demand" access to converse with me a mixed blessing! LOL. Sometimes I have to feign technical failure...

We have had our system for a year now. We ride 2 up and will not EVER do another trip without them. The Sena unit rocks.... Also the large jog dial on the side was
the final nail on the choice. Iphone pairing and our TOMTOM worked flawlessly. I wear earplug and if the in helmet speakers are placed right it was great. ROCKET MOTO
was great to deal with. Also make sure you get the new system as its USB upgradable. :(

been sitting on the fence about the smh10 for a little bit now . i usually ride with my shure se425 plugged into my gamin 700. the last trip i did with my wife said it sucked because i was always saying to her " i cant hear u " . so now seeing on ebay 250$ for a pair i thought they aint gonna get much cheaper and bought a pair .... hope i am gonna be satisfied with foam ear plugs in the ear with the speakers being good enough to give me enough volume ...
only thing is gonna have to wait to spring time to try

Get the $35 setup that lets you plug in your Sure earbuds and you won't have to worry about the speakers being loud enough. I had that problem with the in-helmet speakers...just not loud enough on the VFR. They were barely adequate on my ST1300. I'm assuming your Garmin 700 has bluetooth, so you can pair it up and pair the intercoms...just takes a tap on the jog dial button to switch between sources.

no the garmin is the non bluethooth i think its the 750 , kinda sucks . i might sell the 750 to my buddy and see if i can find a 700 somewhere .
so far just playing with them in the house they are pretty cool . i am suprised that although the speakers are small the sound insnt that bad . i meen of course there are many other small speakers out there that are better quality but still not bad . as for the lack of bass they all have lack of bass.
anyway when i put them to real world road use i will defently write my personal review . and never know i just might go to the 35$ boom mic with the earbud plug in

Depending on your helmet of choice, if it's a fixed full face (not a flip up), you might like the little mic on a wire instead of the boom mic. I have it mounted in mine and it works well. It sticks to the inside of the chin bar with velcro. Also, my Garmin is an old school 450 zumo and no bluetooth goodness either. I got a little bluetooth transmitter by Sony that was recommened by webBikeWorld a while back before all these GPS devices had integrated bluetooth. It's a little more hassle, but cheaper...I plug in the little transmitter to the zumo's audio out port and then pair the transmitter to the Sena. Now I can use the mp3 player on the zumo, it will cut into the music with directions or I can mute it, and my passenger just has to tap the jog button to cut in on the music and talk. The Sony transmitter is a model #TMR-BT10A, about $70 back when I got it.

so i got my sena set during the winter and was unable to try them till yestersay . so after 3 hours of riding i think i could give a real good opinion on them .... the set up i have is the headset with the speakers taped to the inside helmet . for talking on the phone they are great ! my wife was able to hear me loud and clear with minimal road or wind noise .... i also put on a chin skirt on my helmet also ..... i also had ear plugs in my ears and i could hear her at 90kmph with no problems or lack of volume . as for music , they have 0 bass and the sound isnt very good . with the volume full blast with the ear plugs in the music is very low ,which when i ride anyway is how i like it so it doesnt break my concintration with loud music . so are they worth it ?
i think so . to talk on the phone and with another sena while riding is great . they are small and well made . i would recomend them .

.....also at one point i was gonna go to the mic with the plug in for ear buds but changed my mind . i bought these mostly to comunicate with my pasanger or bike to bike or on the phone not for music . not always do i ride with music and with the earbud one i would have to wear the earbuds everytime i ride and didnt like that idea . i have shure se425 so they also work as earplugs . so if i want to listin to music i just plug the se425 into my ipod and i still can hear the phone over them music ..anyway hope this helps someone thinking of buying these . oh and by the way i paid 275 shipped to my door off ebay

I ended up biting the bullet and got a dual pack a few weeks ago as well. I've had Nady, Chatterbox, & Autocom in the past. The Autocom has been the best, but I got tired of being tethered to the bike.

First impressions of the Sena are they work well most of the time. I've had some issues with mine. The left speaker goes in and out. If I move the main unit around a little, it comes back. I need to figure out if it is the unit or the mounting base. I also run stereo plugs, so the base has been changed out to the one I can plug stereo plug into. The other issue is sometimes when it connects to my Garmin 660, the connection sounds terrible. If I turn both off and back on again, sometimes it is better, sometimes I have to do it a couple of times before it sounds good. Directly connecting to my iPhone, I haven't had any issues with sound quality, so it appears to be a Garmin issue.

My GF said hers works just fine (connected to her iPhone). The only issue for her is figuring out how to skip songs, pause the music, and adjust volume without opening the BT channel between us. She gets a little impatient sometimes and keeps pressing buttons which just ends up frustrating her more.

hey 803 i had the same problem with the cutting in and out ....there must be some kind of film on the connections . take off the main unit and get a little flat head screw driver and scrape the brass contacts a little . i did that and they work fine now.
and to ff songs and stuff , push in the big toggle button and turn at the same time . that jumps song forward or backwards if turned the other way

Thanks, will try the contacts, I just figured being brand new out of the box, it should work correctly. I knew the part about jumping songs, my GF just seems to have a difficult time actually doing it. :rolleyes:

Instructions say 4, but it isn't an open chat between 4 people. You have to pick which person to talk to and can only talk with 1 at a time.

With the latest units, you can have an open 4-way conversation via Bluetooth and with the new 'hub' you can connect a standard radio and chat with anyone else with a radio.

I got a pair the other day, sold on them when I saw Tammy and axle7 in California with them, Derek let me listen to his it sounded great. My autocom has given up the ghost and doesnt make solid connections anymore and I am sick of having to plug in every time I get on the bike.

So I have used them twice now, the sound is great, music was a bit low with the orginal speaker clamp, so I ordered an earbud clamp and it is much better for music, great sound now. Rode yesterday with them on for about 11 hours 7:30am to 6:30pm 500 miles and they performed great. They still had juice left at the end of the day. Very happy with this purchase - now I just need to figure out how to connect the radar so I can hear it too. I got a BTT005 stero blue tooth transmitter but it interferes with the phone - either one or the other will work with the sena unit at a time, which is wierd since the gps works at the same time with the phone. I get sound from the phone and the zumo at the same time so not sure why the other transmitter is not doing the same?

Have you tried pairing your phone to the GPS and using it that way? Otherwise, give Sena a call, their customer service is excellent. They're on Faceberk too.

No I haven't tried that. I dint use the GPS except on trips out of state.

Having the same issue. I need to hear the radar via bt transmitter. But the sena won't pair both Iphone and transmitter.

Same issue with me pretty much. I use a Sony BT transmitter with my zumo 450 and if the phone pairs with the Sena first there is no pairing with the Sony BT transmitter. However if I pair the Sony BT first and then turn on my phone I can get pairing with both, but it is still finicky.

Curious.

I am using the original 1st model SMH-10 and can pair with both my Sony BT unit which plugs into my ipod and my HTC One X phone. Both work simultaneously with no issues.

I suggest you guys contact Sena.

After riding with two guys who had a paired set I've finally picked a SMH10 of my own with the optional base that allows earbuds instead of speakers. Really looking forward to not being left in the dark or worrying about where the earbud cable is going between me and my phone.

I still like these units. I think all BT devices have their quirks. For the most part it functions as advertised.

I jes' buyed me a dual SMH10 kit, two clamp kit base adapters for using earbuds and a choice of microphones, and an SM10 dual-stream bluetooth stereo transmitter unit so we can both listen to the same music. Oh - and a new Shoei XR1100 (RF1100 for you Mrkns) which one of the SMH10s is now fitted to, tinted visor, and two pinlocks.
Last week I had the bike given a full service: all fluids replaced, ignition system and valve clearances checked (for the first time since I bought the bike 43k miles and 8 years ago), and throttle body synch checked. Everything in spec.
The guy who did it all, George- "The Motorcycle Doctor" is a mobile mechanic, so he came to my garage, beavered away for 4.5 hours without stopping, and charged me NZ$295 all up. He did a sterling job - the VifFerarRi now runs like a top, very quiet and smooth. I think the thing that made the biggest difference was getting rid of the Mobil1 and putting Motul 5100 in. I've used Mobil1 three times now, and it ALWAYS makes the engine more rattly and the gearchange rough . George told me off and said I was running the wrong oil, and the wrong fuel. I might get him back to recalibrate the TPS to richen the mixture a bit, as it's running quite lean with the satantune and BMC airfilter, and he said tweaking the TPS would fix that - he's done it on several bikes. I don't have a decent map for the PCII, so I took it off.

So I have used them twice now, ...........

Slammer was kind enough to set me up with the pair to his on the ride over from Colorado Springs to Montrose for SumSum2 meet. I can honestly say it was probably the most enjoyable ride that I've ever had in my life. I had my own private, guided tour of Colorado. Miguel was pointing out mountains, telling me their names and how tall they were. He was telling me family stories and where treasured family photos were taken. He was giving me the backstory of small towns and pointing out views that I would have missed without the cues. It was cool as hell.

I know the other guys in our group riding over to Montrose (panamawing, reddog, ldsrider) had to have been laughing their asses off..... Miguel was up front pointing and gesturing at things. It all made sense to me because I was getting the audio.... but to them it must have looked like a crazy man was leading the group.

The old kits left me wanting more volume from the speakers, hence the earbud type purchase. But the new speaker kits have a thick velcro "wafer" that puts the speaker close to my ear and it's much easier to hear. I love the loudness of the S-plug earbuds I have, but they don't block out all the wind noise the way my foam ear plugs do. Also not as comfortable to me during long rides.

P.S. I'm waaay envious of your mechanic. How much do you think he would charge to come to Oklahoma?? LOL

So, you mean you use the speakers plus foam earplugs? How does that work for you in terms of volume and clarity? I initially just fitted the speakers in the ear cavities in the Shoei, then added those pads. They work well, but it's hard getting both speakers in exactly the same place, especially with them trying to grab onto everything when you're trying to put them in!

I was intending to maybe use earbuds on long rides, but I've had trouble (with all four pairs of earbuds I've got) to get them comfortable. I even tried taking the silicon flange thingos off the most expensive ones (some Sonys I bought before I went into hospital for surgery in 2010) and replacing them with cut-down 3M earplugs with a hole bored through the middle with a hot skewer. They fitted better, but still felt annoying. Strangely, the best buds for sound are the ones that came with the Walkman - not true in-ear ones, as they don't project into the ear canal. As such, they won't block out external noise much, and may well fall out (haven't tried them in the helmet yet). If they had some silcon rubber flanges that fitted to my ear, they might be ideal, but they're just smooth plastic, albeit a very slim profile.

The couple of times I've used my new helmet plus sound to work and back has made me somewhat enamoured with the idea of just putting my helmet on without faffing around with putting earbuds in, squeezing the helmet over the top, plugging in the cable, etc. Otherwise, it's just negating the utility of a wireless system.

From what I've read in the reviews on WebBikeWorld, these issues are common ones. It's a real pity that few if any helmets block wind noise, then all this would be easier, as it would if there were high-quality, reasonably priced earbuds with a slim profile and comfortable inserts. It almost makes me want to take the car....

The volume is certainly attenuated by the foam ear plugs, and I have it pretty much turned up full volume. It's the trade off I make for protecting my hearing from the wind noise.

They are the closest thing I have found to a combo earplug/earbud. They block the wind reasonably well and are reasonably comfortable. The key is to lubricate the silicone and shove it all the way into your ear canal. Fortunately there's a wire attached to pull it back out again!

The only other option (that I haven't tried yet) is to get some expensive custom moulded silicone (actually polyvinly siloxane) earplugs that have a high quality speaker driver (earbud) incorporated into it.

Just got mine.  The weather has kept me from riding, but it seems to work as advertised.  Hooked up to my tablet without an issue.  I can listen to music and it sounds great.  I can send voice commands just fine.  Hope to test it on the road tomorrow.

Got my pair from ebay for 240.  Finally got to play today.  Really great having music while I ride and hearing the GPS.

Just got the SMH5 and Shoei GT-Air. I think I'm gonna love it! I can't help but wonder, though, is there an iPhone app for voice to SMS text and back? Some allow you to receive, but it would be nice to send one back.

I would prefer one that uses my cell number that everyone knows instead of setting up some alternate "cloud" account.

Yeah, I had one of those break on me.  The replacement they sent has a more flexible mini plug connector (with strain relief) that has so far not broken.

My wife is a VERY reluctant passenger and now is learning to ride on her own bike. She is also extremely deaf (0% in her left ear, less than 50% in the right). We were thrilled to discover that when the speaker is positioned right by her hearing aid, she hears me better than she EVER has (we're approaching 24 years this April). We joke about wearing our helmets at home full time, and having people walk in on us, naked except for our helmets!

My wife is a VERY reluctant passenger and now is learning to ride on her own bike. She is also extremely deaf (0% in her left ear, less than 50% in the right). We were thrilled to discover that when the speaker is positioned right by her hearing aid, she hears me better than she EVER has (we're approaching 24 years this April). We joke about wearing our helmets at home full time, and having people walk in on us, naked except for our helmets!

Just something to think about.........I do custom molded ear plugs and stereo plugs for Big Ear. I did a Gold Wing Rally once and sold a ton of the stereo plugs. They are a 30db ear plug with the sound piped right into your ear canal. A lot of the "wingers" had hearing aids. They said with the hearing aids in, they hear a bunch of wind noise (which continues to damage your hearing). Without the hearing aid, they couldn't hear their speakers. The stereo plugs were the best of both worlds........blocked the wind noise and gave amplified sound into their ears. Might be something for her to try in the future.

Just got the SMH5 and Shoei GT-Air. I think I'm gonna love it! I can't help but wonder, though, is there an iPhone app for voice to SMS text and back? Some allow you to receive, but it would be nice to send one back.

I would prefer one that uses my cell number that everyone knows instead of setting up some alternate "cloud" account.

Jealous.  I want the GT-air but no funds for it right now.  Would be a great winter/autumn helmet (race helmets flow more air for our 100 degree summers). 

As far as an app for Txting.  It's built into the phone if you have a 4S or Iphone 5.  It's called Siri.  I call her my bitch.  She sends txt's for me all the time when I'm driving.  Hold down the home button to activate her and say "Text John Doe", she replies back "Ok, txt John Doe, what would you like to say".  You tell her, and she'll repeat your txt and ask for confirmation to send to which you reply "Send."  Then she replies back with confirmation that the txt has been sent. 

Just took mine to England to pick up a new CBR1100XX.  Kept the SMH10 connected to my tablet to feed me GPS instructions and provide music.  Drove from Swindon, Uk to Casteau, Belgium 375 miles.  Kept the electronics on the 1.5hr ferry ride as well.  Performed flawlessly.  I still don't know how long the battery will last.  I have yet to run it dry.  I'm going to leave it on to see.
