2005 Winning Red

So, I'm shooting a bunch of panels in red. Brought the seat cowl from my 05 over to the shop to have PPG scan it with the Prophet2(spectrophotometer).

The scanner "reads" the color and spits back a formula for mixing. At the same time, it references a database of "known" colors, i.e., OEM colors. Turns out, when they scanned my cowl, it came back with a code for a stock Subaru color 01W, which PPG calls Precision Premium Red.

I shot half the panels tonight and it looks damn close. They're baking in the booth now and when I pick them up tomorrow I'll be able to put them up next to my bike and see how good the match is. :mellow:

Edit - if it turns out to be a good match, I'll be posting the code and the formula in Rivcyko's "Public Service Announcement thread, which has most of the other PPG formulas for VTEC colors already.

Edited my first post, the Subaru color is model year 2000 - PREMIUM RED 01W SOLID , per "Scoobypedia". Will find out in about 8hrs if it's a perfect match.

RM paint (DIAMONT) has a web based color explorer that has the formula for R157 and most other Honda MC paints. The only formulas I've not found are some of the RC30 colors.

R157 Formula using DIAMONT paint:

Base Coat
For 1 ltr of paint, you add the following grams for a total of 957.3 grams.
BC020 87.4 87.4
BC190 97.7 10.3
BC700 337.9 240.2
BC832 957.3 619.4


Top Coat

Again, for 1 ltr

BC816 170.8 70.0

The results are in... and I think we have a winner!

My OEM VTEC seat cowl is the only part there that did NOT get painted - looks like a pretty close match to me, what do you guys think?

If I had easier/more readily available access to the paint booth(or my own booth) I would be glad to help you out. If you check the link for Rivcyko's thread above, you'll find the paint formula for your 03 Silver. It's a good match!
