Generations of V4 supremacy

I was unloading the race bikes from last weekend's racing this evening, and just for the heck of it....a couple of shots of the RC45 and the VFR1200 (which no longer carries a "RC" designation in the VIN).

Hmmm, the Buffalo is growing on me.

Nice! I was thinking "Oh the barstool has an RC45!" Then it occured to me you have an RC45 & V12. Then I read your bikes list under your avitar... You have an RC45 AND an RC30! It's offical, I hate you! :tongue:

But seriously, interesting conversation. You could hardly say the 12 is in the same vein as the RC's before it. It aint no race bike! But then neither are the VFR's we all love to scratch and tour on. I say "Brances off a tree"

I dun know. It's hard to tell from a picture.
You better fly me down (first class) to Mobile so we can stand in your driveway for many hours (I'll bring real good beer) and ponder this
very deeply. Then we'll need cassandtim (to smoke some ribs) as no doubt we'll be looking at this from many different angles and need the
best minds to gather all the pertinent facts (radar & CVVFR) on whether the comparison is relivant to current data.
Then (with keithbob & jaylene) we'll need to weigh out the parameters of two up riding with the angle adjustment of the V4 alingnment
(SEBSPEED, busylittleshop, HS, Toro, KKKKK Kken) to ensure the engineers at MH haven't completely ostrisized the true meaning of V4,
in the layman's understanding. One can only extrapolate so much from visual stimulus from internet (unproven) sources of documentation.

Niether one are really good, only the clothes are changed

RC is up to 800 cc

so the bigger ones are SC. what is the number that goes with the SC on the new one?

It's SC63. I think they are branches of the same tree. Part of the tree died(pure sportsbike), part is still alive(V4 configured engine), but still the same tree. When I look at the pictures I can definately see the resemblance.

I'm liking the new one more and more...
Looks normal sized seeing it next to the 45. All the pics alone make it seem too big, ST sized.

That 45 looks just wonderful.

I think one would find the 1200 would take the RC45 in every category, power and speed obviously, almost certainly handling (the 45's downfall). The RC45 is pretty dated now and has little going for it against modern sport bikes.

Hmmmm, interesting but not quite realistic, IMHO...based on riding them both as recently as today.

If I had to have only one...it would be the RC45. If I was riding track, it would be the RC45. If I were riding 2-up, it would be the 1200. Actually, the RC is a pretty good daily rider, except for the tall gearing in stock form.

I'll give you that the 1200 handles great, but its not on par w/ the RC....and never will be. The 1200 is big, long(wheel base) and carries a much higher center of gravity. Agility, good, on par with and RC, never. Power, well at 1200+cc it should outclass the RC, but the RC, even in its stock trim, is pretty good and mine has exceeded the 150 mark more than once and I backed off or ran out of track, with more room on the tach. Will a 1200 out pull a RC, maybe in 1st gear, but not beyond that. We'll see what the 1200 can do later on the top end when I can get it to a track.

Dated, well maybe, it is a 16 year old bike.....technology changes and engineering improves, but it is not as dated as you might think. And a good HRC kitted RC is a formidable machine and looses nothing to a modern day sportbike, IMHO.

I am not quite sure where the "(the 45's downfall)" comment comes from, and having ridden it at several tracks,I can tell you in stock form it handles as well as my race built, Ohlins shod 08 CBR600RR.

But then again this is comparing apples to peaches....the VFR1200 will be a great sport touring bike, but it will never be more than that. That's what it was designed for.
