Hi all,

I purchased the signal dynamics plug and play headlight modulator, which requires no wire cutting. I'm wondering if I need to do any other mods to the wiring, or can the bike handle the added component. Once the brake light modulator is back in stock, I'll be purchasing that too. I don't know anything about wiring or electronics, so that's why I ask.

Thanks!

I would think that everything you need to know is in the instructions that come with the product. After market product manufacturers rely on happy customers to continue being in business. I would think that if your headlight modulator required any other mods, they would be sure to tell you. You could always contact the manufacturer to double check. Chances are that puppy is just plug-and-play.

I have the SDC modulator on my bike and it requires no other modifications to the wiring. Just follow the instructions when installing it. I did mine differently because I did not want to damage the original harness since the instructions have you cutting and splicing into it. (in case the unit failed or I wanted to transfer it to another bike) What I did was rather than cut the harness was to attach the SDC wires at the socket that goes onto the back of the headlight, I took the terminals out of the socket, soldered the three wires directly to each terminal and reinstalled them into the socket. On the 4th gen the wires are green for ground, blue/black for high and white black for low. I bought two new headlight wire sockets and wired them into the SDC in parallel so that it is easy to restore it to original if I want to. I undid the wire to the horn for switching flash speeds since I never used it. If this all seems like too much for you just hook it up as the directions say and it will work fine. I mounted my photocell on the outboard side of my upper fork leg between the triples facing up to get the best on-off function. The directions say face it toward the road but it requires a lot of sunlight to begin to modulate and I wanted it to come on with less light. This is a great mod and it will increase your visibility by 200%.Some car drivers don't know what to think and will flash their headlights at you or put their emergency blinkers on; not sure why.
