7th Gen Accessories - Sticker shock !

I expected the centerstand to be expensive and the bags but the heated grips? MSRP on these items from the official Honda site are really high!

I was just looking and what $1300 for side bags, thats crazy just the bags the carrier is built in? $300 for heated grips? Are they made from gold? I have already seen discounted centerstands in the $150 range on ebay I am sure these other items will come down too.

Those prices sound about the same as the OEM parts for the 6th gen. bike.
It really adds up doesn't it. By the time I got the hardbags, frames for mounting, bag liners, tank protector and windscreen you're looking at a couple grand more.
Looks like the donations are still coming in. Hopefully your insurance will cover the rest.

The aftermarket will offer a lot of that stuff, too. Generic items like heated grips and powerlet outlets are already quite available. With any luck SW-Motech will release a centerstand soon, one that is not only be cheaper, but also lighter and less likely to drag in the turns. And the bag liners, etc, will certainly show up on the aftermarket. You'll probably still want the Honda cases though.

$1400 for hard bags and the liner set is an extra $130? Sounds like they're trying to compete with BMW and Ducati!

The color on the Bags are off just a touch also. Not by much but not exactly a color match.

If they're like the heated grips that are available for the NT700V, they have a feature that shuts them off if the bike is low on power, like if you're idling in a traffic jam or something. Not that this is worth it - I mean, when I'm caught in traffic and my bike is idling, I turn down my grips because they get uncomfortably hot; I don't need a high tech automated system to do this. Also, the UK guys complain that the Honda grip controllers are unreliable on the NT.

As always, David Silver Spares is cheaper on luggage. Try $819 for the sidebags and $210 for the centerstand.

If your dealer can't get your accessory prices down, ya need to find another dealer!

The bags look like they were made by GIVI, as mother Honda is outsourcing so much now.....

I doubt that I would want those tiny things (they are what 28L????) and somewhere somebody was saying that they are not perfectly watertight either.

or the one they have just above that one for the v35's (which the last gen's bags pretty much were)

Just like they priced the last VFR out of it's market. They killed the 6th gen with the accessories, and so now they are going to do it with the 7th gen.
Still it should be interesting to see how well the accessories do in europe, with the euro in such a death spiral.

Well they are counting on selling them based on their big 'factory' look, Frankly I don't remember seeing a thermostatic control in the pictures just and on/off switch.
Add in that I like the thicker grip of many brands of heated grip (like hot grips) and their skinny grip doesn't thrill me.

I'd bet that you can get all of this stuff and more through TwistedThrottle and get a hell of a lot better support when you have an issue with any piece of than you ever will from a honda dealer.

That's over $5600 in accessories. I could have a really nice second bike for that much.

This really bugs me, so I went looking.
SW Motech has bunch of stuff for the 1200 already so looked at what I would want to put on one and chose
Racks to mount my e360's (cause they may be ugly but they are till bigger than those honda bags).
a pre wired tank bag, and matching tank ring,
SW's center stand.
A top rack to mount a camera to or carry another small tank bag when using the forward mount for a camera.
Mirror extensions (in case I need them)

Now I would hope that twistedthrottle would be able to better than that (since that included the 19% vat), but I'll work with that for now.

Heated grips (hot grips) with heat-troller will run about 190.
and
if I had to get new e360's the would cost 390.

So throwing in a few more $$ for shipping, you'd need to spend about 1800.00 to get all the goodies I'd want.
Not the 2819 that honda wants, note this price has no shipping in it at all, so it probably more like 3219. Also its not as complete as my list so it would still leave me hunting a few more bits.

And don't expect the dealers to discount any of this stuff (unless you are buying it with the bike and doing Honda financing).

Whats wrong with that dealership? Don't they know who you are? Talk to the owner and tell them youll speak highly of them on VFRD and maybe include a link to their dealership on the site if they hook you up with a good price. Be creative.

I've never used heated grips and have had good service from Gerbings heated gloves; the same pair and jacket liner, since 1992. They go bike to bike, as long as there's an accessory outlet. Furthermore they put heat on the backs of your hands in the wind blast. And there's no extra thickness or problem when you need to replace your grips. A few months back Motorcycle Consumer News had a fairly comprehensive article on gloves and jacket liners. Seems as though with a liner, gloves and a controller you would have it made for nearly any ride at about the same price as Honda's heated grips. Good fortune, B~

Looked around the Twisted Throttle site and did't see the 1200 listed. They may be a little slow or sumpin'. I'll take a look at the SW-Motech site and see what's up over there.

that screen shot was directly from the sw-motech site, that's why all the prices are in euros and there is a whopping 19% VAT shown.

I sent an email to TT asking for pricing on those same items, I've gotten a couple, but they have to find out on a couple of the other bits.

I'll post a new set of prices when I have them all from TT.

Well I got pricing back from TT.

Centerstand - $179.99
wired tank bag - $174.99
powered tank ring mount - $69.99
Quick-lock evo sidecase mount - $235.00
alu-rack top rack - $149.99
mirror extenders - $65.00

That adds up to just under $875, add in the heated grips (hot grips and warm-n-safe controller) and a new set of givi's (why not).
and it would cost $1455 before the shipping.
oh and if you had a set of V35's on your 6th gen and want to keep using them, TT has SW-Motech rack for them as well.
that lot will run you $1060, a new set of bags costing $490, the whole kit would cost $1551 before shipping.
either way you go its 1/2 to 1/3 the cost of the honda stuff.

Most dealerships dont give a rats ass about vfrd nor do they know who I am, which is fine cause I have never done this as a buisness anyway. My local dealer knows me only for the fact that I buy a lot of tires, and have bought 3 bikes from them. They know me as a good customer. But this time around I am going to find sombody within 2 days ride to get me the best deal. I will probably get the bags from David Spares since thats the best price I have seen anywhere. My local dealer doesnt have a 1200 on the floor.

I am sorry I just had to delete those posts with the baked beans guy with his butt hanging out, it was funny 4 years ago when I first saw it but now it just annoys me and its rude.

IMPORTANT NOTE: for anyone contemplating buying accessories from David Silver Spares, I just found this notice on their website: "From 1st June'11 we will only sell parts for any Hondas which were sold before 2002. Thanks to my learning about these guys from this forum, I ordered my top box kit, panniers, centre stand and windshield extension from them when I got my bike and saved almost 1/3 over my Canadian dealer's best price - even after shipping, exchange and duty! And it was all here in less than 10 days in perfect shape.

When I was at the dealer purchasing my 6th gen I kept reminding myself "The bike is only the down payment on the accessories" . . . "The bike is only the down payment on the accessories". It helped ease the subsequent sticker shock a bit. :biggrin:

If buying overseas, don't forget that in addition to shipping, there will be some minor customs fees ($25 to $50 - IF they classify the goods properly - I made a post recently about the Fedex agent mis-classifying my purchase of hard bags from London as hand luggage and hitting me with a 20% duty - I just about have it unwound but it's been a huge PITA) and also your credit card company will charge you a currency conversion fee - mine was around 3% of the transaction price. It all adds up . . .

Unfortunately the dollar is doing so hot against the pound either. And shipping is a small fortune to boot. I've found it's actually cheaper to get stuff in the US at this point. Best prices I've found are at www.accessories4bikes.com.

I can vouch for accessories4bikes.com as well. I found them to be the cheapest when I got the hard bags for my 07,
