Well, I was trying to post up my new Akrapovic Pipe image, but looks like the gallery posting tool is on the fritz....... (gives me a nopermission) message....

So I'll try another way...... or go to my gallery and look at the VFR1200 photos.

So anyway, my Akrapovic Titanium slip on came in yesterday & I mounted in at the shop this morning. Really looks good & cleans up the bike.

Now she sounds like a real V4 should; almost like the RC45!!![image: Posted Image]

Well, not nearly as good looking as the stock, runs much further back and ruins the lines. Kind of tractor like.
I guess if you keep the hard bags on it will partially hide it
#7
Looks much better than the stock ugliness. Cleaner lines and I bet sounds a heck of a lot better as well. And 20 lbs weight savings? Nice. Posted Image

:+1:

Of the ones out there so far, the Akra is the way to go IMHO. Very nice.

Yep. Sorry to be a party pooper, but I have to call this one like I see it [and I'm a 5th Gen guy and have absolutely no intent on ever owning a VFR 1200, so I have no dog in this fight]. That Akra does indeed look absurd, poking out back there on a horizontal line, hiding the SSA wheel. I mean, it really does look like a farm implement exhaust or something from a 1920's car that's been tacked on to the sleek new VFR.

What was wrong with the OEM exhaust? The same great minds who designed the bike also designed that OEM system!

me likey very much!! :fing02:

Yes, you are 101 percent correct, and I'm sure tharkum likes his mod on his bike. That's what it's all about! :fing02:

As for personal taste, I kinda like the OEM can I put on my 2000 after running a beautiful black Erion for 5 years. Go figure!
#14
I like the Akro pipe. It's good to finally see some light aroung the swing arm. Bike looks at least 20 pounds lighter with out the stock chrome sculpture attached. The low mount has to be mounted at that angle for the saddle bags. :fing02:
#15
That's the beauty of the Bos system. It comes with a link pipe that allows high or low mount. Very handy.
#16
Is there enough room between the can and the back wheel so that you can take the wheel off without having to muck with the exhaust?

If you mean the stock system - no. The muffler has to be slacked off (you are better off removing it) to get the wheel clear. It's not so bad - 5 minute job. Not sure if the high mount aftermarket systems have any more clearance.
#18
I'd be interested to know what was done with the cable opperated flapper thing inside the stock zorst.
#19
man i like that high mount. too bad you cant use the side mount cases with it.
and 161 whp?! can you imagine if/when they make a full system for this bike? plus a pc and tune?!

I would lean more for a shorter can but I like seeing mods on bikes so I go with a :fing02: for getting the stock can removed. That stock can looks like some type of Alien weapon.

The flapper valve is disconnected. The cable is removed from the servo mech in the right rear cowl. I've done this mod to my standard can and it sounds much deeper at idle. By all accounts it improves low rpm fuelling too, but i've been unable to test it out yet.

Actually, the flapper valve is not disconnected on the Akrapovic can, they have the flapper system built into the can along with the cables. Ya just swap out the cable!
#23
I was wondering about the flapper thingy. On my demo ride, the one thing we all said was "They need to uncork this thing a bit so you can hear the V4"

Is the V4 supposed to help fuel/power/sound or some such thing?

Interesting. I had only seen the Bos Exhaust up close. That does away with the cable completely.

I kind of like the way the stocker looks too now that I have it sitting in the garage, but the sound its so muted its gotta go. The Akrapovic has a throttle valve that is activated by the stock electric cable that activates the throttle vavle on the stock unit, for low end torque, I think it is a piece of crap myself the stock thing cable activated exhaust flapper. It sort of mutes the throttle response IMHO. I can definitly feel it hindering the throttle reponse when I whack the throttle and run it through the gears. I dont like it myself. The stock looks OK not great but it looks better than it does in pictures, the whole bike is that way. But its so darned quiet! Sounds quiet and tractor like, barely sounds like a v-4.

Hi friends, a question, with akrapovic slip on the torque decreased?
Thanks.

Don't go hatin' on me, but as hideous as it is, I'd keep the stocker and have it coated flat black. The aftermarket can looks "funny" (not that there's anything wrong with that).

Only difference I can detect is the shorter hangar for the exhaust can. Tharkun's hangar is longer, to accomodate the saddle bag. The "high mount" has a 2-3" shorter hangar. I'm sure he could get that hangar if he wanted to go "high mount." I don't see a lot of difference between the two.

Yup, agreed. Actually, I'm thinkin' matte black or even "asphalt" instead of plain flat. But yeah, I'm surprised Honda didn't do the can in some sort of neat-o black coating.

I think the stock can complements the bike well. It's elegant just like the bike.

did 300 miles with the guys today Reddog says the exaust shines so much it blinded him a few times, it has so many angels that its reflects the sun pretty much all the time.

Black is slimming (hee hee). I think the stock can would look much better in the frame color/finish. JMHO.

I'm still hoping that Taylormade comes up with something. I'm not in the market, but it would be cool to see!!

Yes I like the angle of this can much better myself. I think I would run the short hanger all teh time unless I wanted to run my bags, then just swap out for the longer hanger to add bags. :fing02: Shouldn't add 5-10 min. to bag mounting.

Sadly not. I emailed them and they have no plans and went as far as to say their R&D budget is spent. Shame - as a full race system and mapping would be something to see / feel.

That's kind of what I was thinking. Two pipes, one for luggage on, one upswept for luggage off.

Today picked up my akrapovic highmount pipe. My bike is back to the dealer for a engine checkup by Honda. So i have to wait to check the sound. I will post some pictures when the bike is back and the pipe is mounted. :bliss:

One could probably buy a new shroud for it (from looking at it the chromish part is just a shroud for the most part) and get it powdercoated black.

Can't be as easy as just putting the shorter hanger on. If you rotate that exhaust up to accomodate the shorter hanger then the view from the rear will show the can twisted in at the bottom towards the rear wheel.

Perhaps not as badly as I picture it in my head though.

Maybe Tharkun can sell one of the RC's and get a spare hanger... :goofy: that way we can see how it looks.

BR is right though - no more than 5-10 minutes added to hanging the bags, so that makes hanging the bags and changing the exhaust hanger a 7-12 minute exercise...
#44
I am interested in the akrapovic low mount if significant weight savings and doesn't cause problems with my basic/extended warranty or insurance company.

Also interested in smoother low speed throttle response without additional mods. Most of my riding is in that range.

Did you weigh both pipes to compare? Akrapovic web site seems to indicate only < 6.5 lb saved. Also, are the dyno results with the sound plug inserted? I would be leaving it inserted.
#45
If I get the money, I may buy the Akra high mount but, I am broke now still recovering from the initial purchase of the too friggin expensive VFR1200F.
#46
As I aways have the side bags on, I went with the Akra CF Low mount, tucks nicely under the heat shield and follows the line of and under the bag, not a ridiculous angle right into the corner of the bag as the OEM.

Appearance is subjective of course but I much prefer this over the OEM, (I did not hate nor love the OEM) and the sound is far superior, prolly too loud without the db killer insert. Butt dyno may exaggerate, but power definitely seems better down low with the Akra.
