I am new to the forum and will do a more formal intro later with some pics of my VFR, nice site you have here!
I am looking into doing a 1998 SSS conversion on my RC51 and have some questions B4 i get going. I am wondering if anybody has converted the 98 rear eccentric hub and axle to say a RC30 or NC30 style for better wheel options? I am not keen on the bolt style wheel and i happen to have a few RC30/NC30 wheels to use as well as axles. Has anybody swapped these out or do you have any info that might be useful towards thsi venture of mine.

it has been done.. and if you have the real deal rc30 wheels your a lucky bastard..
as for fitting the rc30 axle.. i am not sure if its a direct slide in or if you need to change the bearings..
measure the searing areas on the axle and i will see if its the same as the 98 vfr
do you have the swingarm already?

RC30 axle needs to be pre '97 VFR hub, dimensions change to RC45 '98 forward...
Full measurement are available online if you search.
hhmm i am pretty have 2 sitting on a shelf.. so measure up the axle and i will verify it.

RC30 wheels were 18" diameter ~ neat but not so great in 2010. The RC30 axle will accept a 17" OEM Ducati wheel or aftermarket wheel though. NC wheels were no wider than 4.5" so OK for a 160mm tire but pretty disappointing out back on an RC51, I would think.
You will find the RC30, RC45, NC30 and NC35 spindles are all too short on the sprocket side as they were not designed for cush drives.
Rumor is the HawkGT spindle fits in one of the VFR eccentrics (probably the 750's) but the wheel drive pin diameter is 100 mm, and you need 85 mm to use a single nut wheel. So if the spindle did fit in the 800's eccentric, you would still need to drill for new drive pins, and the huge VFR800 rear caliper and rotor is probably still going to hit whatever wheel you bolt on.
I have read about guys who put VFR spindles in their HawkGT's to use a 5.0" or 5.5" rear wheel, but the swap doesn't work so good in the other direction.
