83 VF750 - Carb question

Hi guys, I finally decided to rebuilt my 83 VF, and after I put the engine back in the frame, I notice that the carbs seem to be missing a 2 springs on the throttle. Can someone confirm this?

On the pictures, I hope you can see the one of the throttle plate has 2 springs - one on each side. The other 2 have only one on the screw, but none on the other side. Am I right?

The screw here has a spring, but none to go on the other side. So there is a gap on the between the plate of the carb on the right when pushed in place.

Sorry for the poor quality here, but again it seems to be missing a spring here too.

First tip of the day. Try taking those pictures again, but use the macro setting on the camera. It's usually the button that has a flower in a box. Example below. It's the button on the left of the circle.

I think I know where you're missing the springs, but without clearer pictures I can't be sure. Do you know what the spring is supposed to do? Have you looked at a microfiche?

I'm thinking those are for the carb sync.

Better yet, do you have a factory service manual? They are invaluable for the work you are doing! (glad to see you decided to rebuild it too!)

I have the book, but no help there, and the micrpfiche online don't show it either. That's why I came here. On this picture, you can see the 2 springs on each side of the throttle plate of the second carb. In this picture, the function of the second spring is when you open the throttle, the carb that is hooked to the throttle cable opens the throttle of the second carb. The spring is to allow some "give" instead of being direct.

The other plates seem to be needing a second spring like the one you see in the picture below. So, if you have those carbs out, what I need to know is do all of them have springs on each side or only this one.

The spring between the two plates? That should be the spring for pushing the other side of the carbs open. Well. Not really sure what the technical terms are. If you rotate the throttle cam on the carbs by hand, all the carbs should open. The spring is what connects the two halves of the carbs. There is no direct link. So without those springs, you should see two of the carbs open and the other two not open, or lag behind.

It makes sense, because the carbs don't open at the same time without it. I checked the carb linkage online and they don't even list the parts. I'll try to find a set of old carbs and salvage the springs. Thanks for confirming what I thought.

I found the 2 springs that were missing- in a freggin' box that had nothing to do with the carbs. The guy told me he had an issue after he rebuilt the carbs (Now I'm worried). He obviously forgot the put the springs making the carbs totally out of sync. Now I just tried to put them on, and - omg, if I ever hear again that carbs are better than efi, I'll have the guy fitting these on - and the idle screw isn't touching the plate. I'll work on that tomorrow. If lucky, I'll have the engine running tomorrow night. Woo hoo!
