I just changed the grips on my VFR and now I can't get the bar ends to back in all the way. They're just spinning in place. This is on both the throttle side and left side... Can't figure out what I'm doing wrong... anybody got a pictorial? Getting frustrated.

What happens is, the bolt threads into the internal handlebar weight, which is isolated from the ID of the bar by rubber dampers. As you tighten the bolt, the weight spins in the rubber damper. I use my electric impact gun to seat the bolts as it does a better job of seating the bolt quickly.

Now, I can't back the bolt out, but it's still not going in either. That's on the left bar. On the right I can probably back it out, but it won't seat either. ERGH! Maybe I'll just order some aftermarket clip-ons...

Are you holding the bar end with one hand and screwing the screw with the other?? I haven't done it in a while, but I seem to remember if you just put the screw driver on the screw without holding the bar end, it just spins and spins and never really tightens up.

Oh yeah! The 6th gen has "keys" on the mating faces of the weight & the bar end! Try what Ken said!
