Grip Recommendations

I've been searching and searching on the forum for grip recommendations with or without pics and found some posts peppered in other topics/threads. I didn't really see many suggestions other than those huge foam grips that go over the stockers. (grippygrips?)

I have an 06, black with the OEM grips. They are holding up okay but I wonder if there are better aftermarket grips you guys use and would recommend. I don't want heated grips nor do I need a 'racing' grip.

My wants are in order by comfort, then style, then price.

I went with (in particular order) price, price and price. These happened to be laying on my brother's bench when I noticed that my grips were worn out. Funny enough is that I really like them. The big rings on the inside are good at preventing sorness on really long rides.

I've been using Pro Grip 719's for a while - they have been great grips. Only trouble I had with them was when I trailered to NC - the canyon dancers spun them a bit - had to reglue.

They are fairly inexpensive as well.

I bought spider grips last year, yeah they did not last long the 1st hot day in the sun they melted. they felt good up till then, they started leaving a black residue on my gloves and then anything my gloves touched. after a couple hot days they were done.

Running a progrip 699 sportbike gels, they been on for a year / 18k miles think they are just now needing to be replaced.

Stock grips will last over 100,000 miles

Stock grips have worked for me on almost every bike that I have owned in the last 22 years.

It's not that I don't like the stock grip, in fact I ask because I've never replaced any stock grip on previous bikes. I guess I didn't have them long enough :biggrin:

I just wondered if anyone found a better aftermarket grip they would recommend. As it's one of only three points connecting me to the bike, if additional comfort could be had from an aftermarket - I thought it would be good to know. It's kinda like replacing the stock seat. It serves it's intended purpose and would likely last many 10's of thousands of miles, and could be acceptable to the majority of owners; however, the option of a Sargent or Corbin saddle for additional comfort is nice to have.

I have large palms so the stock grips on my 07 were too small, causing some discomfort/cramping. I bought a set of Grip Puppys and have had them on for two seasons with excellent results. More comfort and excellent wear. Plus, they are not really noticeable installed over the stock grip. When these finally are worn I will replace them with another set. :fing02:

I've been playing around with a few different sets and finally settles on Oury road grips. A little softer but still with plenty of control. I think they were $10. Really like them You will have to cut the end off though.

yes, I read you are not interested in a heated grip, but thought this might help the thread have greater utility...

Honda Japan sells a heated grip kit for the 6th gen VFR that, even with the Japanese instructions, I got working with no problems. I found it odd that the writing on the control button is in English though. The grip size is larger than stock by a bit, but they are very nice in the Spring and Fall mornings. I've had them for two years. Great investment for my $. They have about 15K miles on them with no issues.

I wear a size medium glove, but like the slightly larger grip diameter.

The BMW SPORT grips make my hands happy. As an added bonus, I love the way they look.
And it's less than $20 for the pair.

for me ProGrip 699. Excellent grips, very comfy, not the best looking grips out there, very competitive price. I swear by them, get the open end ones so you can put the bar weights on and save having to cut the ends of yourself.

Pro Grip 724 open ended in red, look like they were made for the VFR. My favorite.

If your OEM grips are in good shape, slip Grip Puppies over them. They make the too-thin (for me) stock grip fatter, and they are soft and comfortable. I'm on my second pair. Believe I paid $9.95.

+1 on the BMW sport touring grips. Had them on my FJR and now on the VFR. Very good grip and they look great with the heavy polished bar ends.

Yea - the Grip Puppies slip on seem like a great choice and pretty cheap too. I think I'll give those a try first.

I like them too! However i recently saw a member here with awesome Kuryakyn ISO grips that he had powder coated black and installed on his VFR.

:+1: I used Pro-Grip 719's for a few years until my grip heaters melted them. I switched to Oury's about 3 years ago and have been happy with them.
