How many miles did you get on your oem vfr12000 tire?

I did not let it go all the way to the cords but I blasted past the wear bars and was almost out of groove before I spooned on a new set of PR2's today. I cant say I liked those Dunlop roadsmarts much, not much feedback and they hopped around gassing out of corners, I could even hear them screeching sometimes with my earphones in. I played around with the rear suspension settings to get the rear more compliant thinking that was it but no its was the tires doing that.

I hope this is not a usual sport touring tire range for the big vfr 1200? I used to get 5k out of a sport touring tire If I stayed sane on the slab parts. 3500 if I really abused them hard. I can say I did not abuse these tires! Still getting used to this bike I wasnt pushing them all that much, well the bike is deceptivly fast though maybe I did abuse them a bit. We will see how the PR'2s go for milage on my trip to Troutdale in a week.

Have 3400 + on mine now and probably another 1000-1500 left before a change. Overall satisfied with the tyre but will probably go to PR2 next.

In addition to VFR's, I've had many bikes with big torque like your new 1200: bandit 1200s, VTR1000F, RC51, and now a 1050 Speed triple. 3500-4500 for sport-touring and 1500-2500 for sport tires have been my experiences.

Front tire (Bridgestone BT21) down to the wear bar with uneven wear patterns, rear close to the wear bar at 4,000 miles. Any recommendation on tire replacement and can I mix brands?

I have Dunlop Roadsmarts, now 9700km (6000 miles), tires are now not in good condition, but still usable. My typical usage is more touring, less sport

PR2's! Yes u can mix them. Have PR2 in the rear and on a trip to the blue ridge parkway needed a front tire. Dealer did not have a PR2 so replaced it with another roadsmart. Have over 2300 miles on it with that combo and they are fine. Will probably still switch to front and rear PR2's next time. Roadsmart is a very good tire so either are good I just have not been real impressed with the stones over the last year and a half.

Well I have 8.5k on the bike now with the same PR2's I had for the PNW trip and probably have another 500 - 600 miles in them to go yet, so overall 4700 miles on them and have about a mm left to the wear bars on the rear, front is actually wearing evenly with the back? The Dunlops were gone much sooner I probably have two good rides on them before they get bald. I already have a bagged up set of PR2s in the shed for the upcomming season. Leave this set on till then, I might put them in the crawl space to keep them semi warm for the winter at room temp. I cant say I rode them very hard, except maybe slabbing across Wyoming at almost triple digit out there in the open country. Nothing like cruising at speed like that all day long - sort of satisfying in country the Police did not feel it was worth patrolling. I did not push them so hard, not as hard as I have push tires before. I babied the Dunlops and they did not last like the PR2's when I was getting used to this bike.

Those tires looks mighty bald, weren't you worried about having a blow out or no water channeling in the rain? I usually change out my tires before it reaches the wear bars. VFR only has two wheels and would hate to think what would happen if my front blew out at high rate of speed.

Front having a little tread to no tread only took bout a week on that front wheel. So i wasnt worried bout blowouts till it was totally bald. And i have another bike i rode when i saw rain in the forecast. Luckily the weatherman was right.

6000 kilometers out of my oem 021 Bridgestones and hated every k, without a doubt the worst tire i have ever ridden on and to think i was happy my bike came with those and not the dunlops

I'm now at the 2800 mile mark (I have several bikes to ride), and the center flat spot on the rear is becoming very apparent. I tend to travel far on the freeways on the commute, and I'm guessing this is a soft compound (?) I only weigh a buck-30... There doesn't appear to be much wear at all on the front.

My next set will be Metzlers. They are dual-compound so the dreaded flat spot will not appear as quickly here in the land of the freeways.

Have 8200km ob both front and rear. Rear looks like its still god for another 3000k. Front will probably give up in another 1000km. But I have no intention of wearing them out till they are bald. The front has worn our unevenly and in some places there is no thread at all.

I have Road Pilot 2s in waiting so no worries!!! :cheerleader:

I just ordered a pair of PR2s yesterday because at 4275 miles, my front tire is to the wear bars. {They are on backorder until next week so I was told.}
The rear still looks good but, I don't like how it feels and always change both tires together anyway.
My CBX runs a pair of PR2s and I got 8000 miles out of a pair of PR2s on my Blackbird, so so PR2s will go on my VFR1200F also.

I've got 5K miles out of the rear and it's time to go. I was not too impressed with the Bridgestone tires...will look for something more sport oriented.

Go for the michelin pilot power. ( not the 2 ct ) They are very good and last 5000 km rear and 6000 km font. They are giving the VFR a more nimbler handling and kneedown grip.

Front around 4k, rear 6k close to wear mark. I replaced the rear with Road2. While the tire was being changed, I went to the show room and measured the tread depth of the Roadsmart on a new VFR, compared to the Road2. It had significantly less tread, I see why the road2 will outlast the Roadsmart.

wouldn't the 2ct be better than the standard pilot power?

From the standard pilot power you can expect a better milage without sacrifice grip. Its the ideal compromise sports touring tire.
At least in mine opinion.

bit limited in tire choice with a heavy bike like this running a 190/55 and most tires in that size being very sport orientated

Ended up with a set of Metzeler M5's and so far very impressed, will be interesting to see what sort of mileage i get

I was tossing back and forth between the M5's and the Diablo Strada's. I ran them on my past VFR and my R1100S and had good luck. ran out almost 5K miles out of them, and with my weight I needed a thicker tire. sticky ones go bad VERY fast.

I fitted a set of Pirelli Angel ST's a month or two ago......best sport-touring tyre I've tried so far...great feedback and pretty reasonable grip, I haven't been able to make them let go as yet, not that i ride that hard! I could get a squirm or two out of the original RoadSmarts tho! Time will tell how many Km's I get out of them... but so far so good..!

I guess it all depends on what sort of riding you wish to do, if you wish to ride hard you'll have to go a bit softer I suspect....at the cost of more wear and tear.

My OEMs are Dunlops. I took the rear off at 4,750 miles but kept it. It looks like it's probably got another 1,200 miles or so left in it. I put another OEM Dunlop on because the OEM Dunlop front is only about half gone. When the front's worn out (at 10-12K miles or so?) I'll replace both with something different. Too early to tell what that'll be, but I'm listening carefully to what the rest of you have to say.....

I got 12k out of me rear bt21. I just replaced it with a bt016. Im riding more agressive now, ill be happy if these last 5k. I got 3k on my front bt-23 and its still looking strong.

At 5000 Kms my rear OEM Dunlop is not completely shot, but visibly squared off and down to the wear indicators through the centre.

Front tire is fine... but do you think I could find a bloody replacement rear? Dunlop doesn't even list that size on their site.

I ordered a pair of Pirelli Angels. The original tires still have some meat so I'll see if I can find a stunter that will give me 50 bucks for them.

I am on my second set of pilot road 2 they are cheaper now that the 3's have come out milage is 6k I get more milage out of the 190/55 then I did on my 98 with 180/55's. Must just be more meat there the rear profile has a higher crown too.

4000 miles and going on this set I got 2k left I think. The 1200 is harder on the front tire then my 98 was but easier on the rear? Go figure?

Got 3200 miles on my OEMs. Changed out w/ Dunlap Q2s Happy with them so far
