GPS mount thing stuck in steering stem

Anyone know how to get this off? It was a base for a GPS mount. I can't put the cap back on with it in there, so it looks just like the picture. Took the steering stem nut off, no luck, it's on the inside of the pipe.

Remove front wheel, look up and notice hole at bottom of steering stem, get a long metal rod of the appropriate diameter and tap the GPS mount thingy out from below. Oh...replace front wheel before riding!

so it's a press fit in there? Is removing the front wheel the only way?

Can you push it through to the other side?

If you know who installed it, call him up and ask. That will be your easiest, least damaging route. For all you know, he could have 609 it in there, if so... it ain't moving without heat.

Short of that, I'd drill it out if you don't see any kind of locking device from the bottom of the stem.

Do you know what brand it is? That'll help in figuring out how it's held in place. Could be a press fit, could also have a nut on the underside that expands a piece of rubber, like an aftermarket bar end. If it has the rubber piece, you won't be able to tap it out(not very easily, anyway...).

You might also be able to drill a hole in the center of the mount and then screw in a large eye hook and pull it out.

looks like a RAMmount, which will only tighten via a bolt which is not in evidence.

So if corkscrew does not do the trick, try tapping it out from below as described above; you may not have to remove the front wheel...

Does RAM use a rubber bushing on that piece? If so, a squirt of oil around the piece will help it pop out.

the long tapered rubber is is placed in the stemhole (if it is a narrow hole you can cut the piece and use the lower section; I had the use the top/cilindrical part)
To the left are the hard plastic rounds one of which go at the bottom with a nut inside (depending size stemhole). The bolt goes through the thingie with the ball, through the rubber cilinder and into the nut. Tightening with allen key will pull the hard plastic up, expanding the cilinder.... Hope this makes sense. Otherwise go to the RAMmount webiste and look for user manual..

I had a Ram Mount plug stuck like that once. I was able to fish a couple of 3/8" socket extensions up from the bottom, without removing the wheel, and pushed it out.

Throw some cold water on it. :laughing6-hehe:

Drill the hole in it bigger and cut it out. It may even spin out with the drill bit.
