The guy described this to me over the phone as a "parts bike". I disagree! After one day of carb cleaning, fuel tank cleaning, and new tires, she's in better shape that my 87!!!

Good brakes, rotors, sprocket, radiator, clutch, lights, etc. She purrs like a kitten :biggrin:

No I don't think so...I believe he said that because it didn't run at the time, and has significant damage to the rear cowl (more pics to come soon)
Nothing I can't fix with some Miller Lite and my garage!
And the title? Got it. Turns out that another pilot at my company used to own this thing! My plan is to drive it to the airport and show him once I get tank cleaned and tires on

I'm for sure going to sell one of these older ones. probably the blue one. Just want to get this one running great first though and frankenstein if needed.
Let it be known that I will soon have for sale the 87 VFR 700 (blue/silver) with 47k, asking probably something near 1,300...
So here's where the project is at the moment. (nearly completed!)
Cleaned carbs, started right up on fuel tank from my 87 Viffer. (goofy lookin in picture)
Had to clean out tank and reseal, but now the tank is functioning fine. Also painted exhaust, bought some grips, etc etc etc
New tires installed yesterday! She's all back together but I'm still wrestling with the front brakes. I had to rebuild the right caliper because it was sticking badly. Now, there's a ton of air in the line and I'm having trouble getting it all out. Bought a bleeder, should be here next week.
Anyway, once brakes are set, it's test ride time :cheerleader:

I've got a Mighty-Vac bleeder if you need to get the air out. Let's get that air out for the weekend! She looks great and cleaned up real well... nice for a change to wake up and things looks better than the night before!

Dang man I just bought one two days ago! I guess in the end I'd probably want my own anyways. The clutch on the other "old" bike needs some serious work too. Much appreciated tho!
As for this weekend, plans are to be in the Bahamas :goofy:
The project is moving along smoothly but I want to ask about synching my carbs. I cleaned out the carbs myself to get the bike running again but it is far from perfect. It runs very rich, and doesn't run as smoothly as my other 2nd gen.
Is a carb synch the best bet?
If so, how much should I pay for such a job? Around $100?

No worries man... I've got a 4 column Morgan CarbTune in my garage!!! I haven't done carbs on a V4 yet, but there's always a 1st time! Have done V2 & I4 carbs before and did my throttle bodies on the Y2K and she's running nice. If you're running rich it is probably from a sticking float or needle in those old carbs. It also could be from the PO rejetting to the wrong size when the exhaust was changed. Are you running rich at idle, small throttle opening, or WOT?
Any body have any input on balancing the carbs on this '86?
I have confidence that you boys in TN will get it sorted out with a couple six packs and a laptop. We expect a YouTube Video of Tyler doing something crazy once you get it sorted.
