aftermarket carburetor jet kit sucks

Lots of gas... on the 96 with 16k miles. K&N filter and 2 Bros Pipe.

i pulled the carbs off this morning to see what was in there to cause such poor fuel mileage (low 30's).

The needle has two tapers separated by a large step. The main jets are #124. The culprit was probably the stupid #42 pilot jet combined with the pilot screws set at 2-5/8 turns out--no wonder the tip of the pipe is so black...

Anybody have some stock needles they want to trade for some dynocrap?

The pilot jet and screw only manages idle. Once you give it throttle, they are irrelevent. Cant you lower the needles?

Yeah i could try that too. i just put the pilot screws at 1-1/2 turns out and will give that a test first. Most of my commute is at 65-70 mph on interstate, so the throttle is only open about 1/8.

I would be interested to know what you find out, I just figured its the gas up here at least 10% ethanol Here is what Iam getting per Fuelly.com over the last 12,279 miles 34.4 avg MPG, 32.4 last MPG, 38.6 best MPG

All she has is a TBR Pipe, stock jetting, with 74k on her. Maybe you will find the answer for better mileage...although I am happy with mine :biggrin:

Stay away from Dynojet (see my thread - http://www.vfrdiscus...__1#entry729398).

Factory Pro kits do work and I've got mine running well with Factory needles. The stock filter with the screen removed has been tested as flowing better than the K&N style filters.

If you compare the two, you'll find the K&N has much less filtering area than the stock filter. I run Uni which has a much larger filter surface than the K&N. I've modded other stuff too but I'm getting over 97rwhp and 57ft.lbs with the UNI filter.

I'm still running the stock #40 idle jet and 1-1/2 turns out seems to work just fine. Good response and I'll be able to let you know about mileage soon.
