I'm thinking of de-smogging my 4th gen. Does anybody know the best procedure to go by? What to remove/unplug?
Are there any cavets? Like any smog part that's connected to it's normal running?.
I have a California bike; I dunno if that's any different then a 49-state.

I also plan on installing a jet kit. I have a TBR exaust and it pops on decel all the time.

Step 1: Cap all ports on the exhaust side of the heads where the chrome tube s go in with a flat plate, some high temp gasket pooky and original bolts.

Step 2: Unbolt exhaust pumps from inside heads. Plug all vacuum tubes feeding pumps. Remove and discard pumps.

Step 3: Remove and discard all chrome air tubes. Fun considering where they are run..

Step 4. Seal where air tubes go into air box over carbs. I epoxied mine shut with plugs.

Step 5: retune engine. It WILL be leaner.

Honest Mr. EPA man, it was that way when I bought it.

I'll be curious what affect it has on gas mileage.
My 94 with all that stuff removed (bought it that way) gets 47-48mpg.
My other 4G's get ~42-43mpg.
I plan on remonving that stuff on the other bikes, I already have the caps, bought from PTO (?).

Mine was a 3rd gen, but should be the same on the 4th.
