I thought I saw a thread on this a while back, but I can't find it.
I recently picked up an '86 VFR700F2 (I'll be starting a thread for pictures and repairs I'm doing soon), and the front tire that was on it was a 120/90-16. The specs say that the front is supposed to be a 110/90-16, so someone obviously decided that a wider, thicker tire was a good idea. My question to all of you is, was it? What are the ups and downs to a larger tire.
I'm ordering new tires soon, and the price difference is nearly nil, so I'm in need of opinions.

120 is what 6gens are running... but that doesn't mean you can slop a 120 on your bike or wheel unless the wheel is the right size for it, or it can change the profile of the tyre or even be an unsafe fit......... I'm sure that there's people here that know what your bike can handle..............

Well I've been riding it around with that 120 on the front for the past 2 days, so it seems to function and clear the fender just fine, but I haven't ridden it with the correct size tire on it, so I don't really know how it will handle.
I believe it will turn out to be a 120/80-16 if you look again, whereas the stock front is a 110/90-16
It will work fine, I ran that size on my '86 for years, no problem.
narrower tyre will turn in quicker, higher profile will slow the turn in down, but will give more grip while leant over.

I tried a 120/80 front on my 87 750, did like the stock size better.
I went up 1 size om GL. I actually like it better than the stock size. It's more stable and turns in just as quick.
I got the idea because my parts bike had a 1 up frt. tire.
What influenced my decision the most is that there is a 120/80 on the front now (which is pretty worn, hence why I'm replacing it), and I really like the way the bike handles. I don't want to change things and potentially make it handle worse.

better or worse is in this case subjective. some people will cry murder if you use a non-stock size. it's all in what you prefer - quicker turn-in, wider look...
i think that if you like how it handles now, get the larger profile tire and go to town!
