Little help please, which stem Ram mount for 6th gen

Title says it all.

I tried the one that fits in the steering stem and has the rubber expansion plugs but I never could keep it tight so I bought this one that mounts in front of the tank. You just need to get longer tank bolts. The medium length arm was just a little short for me so I switched to the longer arm on my 6th gen..

:+1: on this one...it works! Get mounts at GPScity.com, they have good photos and lots of selection, seems like prices are good too. Get new longer SSteel hex key bolts at local hardware store.

What is that BS "Warning" sticker on your beautiful tank? I have a 2004 and haven't seen that...

Same set up here. Great thing about it is that it doesn't move with your steering. I found that the center-center dimension was a tad smaller than the tank bolts, so don't be surprised if you have to file a little get the screws to line up.

I actually went to the shortest arm, in order to reduce the leverage (and subsequent motion range) of the GPS unit during bumps. I live in Quebec, bumps is all I have!

My '04 had the same stickers. I took them off the day I bought the bike.

I tried the tank mount, but switched to the stem mount. I can't get the right position for the GPS when I use my tank bag and the tank mount. I did have to modify the stem mount to make it fit tighter. I threw away the rubber plug that came in the kit and replaced it with a different one from the plumbing department at Lowes.

I bought the center stem mount, and like everyone else, can't get it completely tight. But i live with it that way. It's never become so loose that the GPS has fallen off or anything. I just make sure to hand tighten it again after a few hours of riding. If I every buy another one, it will definitely be the tank bolt mount.

Like you and many others I had the same problem. Instead of using the rubber stopper that came with the kit, I used a rubber cork that comes with some bottled wines. The diameter is almost perfect for the stem. I cut the rubber cork to size, drilled a hole through the middle (be careful to keep a straight line as you drill through it) and followed the directions that came with the mount. Worked pretty well and it's tight. FWIW

Not saying you should or shouldn't, I just haven't seen those stickers before and thought maybe it was a Canadian bike or something. I bought my 04 second hand so didn't know it came with stickers on the tank. Love the color of your bike btw...

I've had a stem mount rubber plug on my '99 and it worked great. Never loose at all. Perhaps my GPS was light enough not to be a problem?
In any case, I believe there is a mount that runs a bolt through the stem to mount it more solidly than a plug. If not sold that way, it's certainly an easy mod!
I like the tank bolt mount, too.
